Meet Shelby Balentine and Carmen MacKay of CEO Clothing Co. in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Balentine and Carmen MacKay.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shelby and Carmen. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We are both originally from Huntsville, AL, and grew up dancing together. We kept in touch throughout college where Carmen attended Auburn University and studied Fashion Merchandising and Shelby went to the University of Alabama and studied Sports Journalism. We sparked the idea one day after we were discussing how hard it was to find cute and fashion forward outfits that are work appropriate. We hated that we had to create an entire new section in our closet of “work clothes” that we didn’t even like, but we felt we had to have in our young professional lives. After we came up with the idea to create our own online boutique with affordable women’s workwear, we struggled to find the perfect name. Of course, during many, many hours locked up during quarantine, the perfect name came to us– CEO Clothing Co. We began the process of getting our business set up and seeking out vendors and we were finally able to launch in September 2020!

Has it been a smooth road?
Our biggest obstacle so far has been that we launched during a global pandemic. People’s money is tight so they aren’t shopping, especially for work clothes when most everyone is working from home. We knew this would be a challenge so we decided to incorporate a “Work From Home” section of clothing that includes cozy loungewear sets, slippers, and “zoom approved” tops/sweaters.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We have affordable and trendy clothes perfect for an interview, first day on the job, and just everyday office attire that can be easily transitioned to wear outside of work to dinners, family functions, and events. We feel that there really isn’t ONE store where young professional women can find workwear, they feel confident in–until now.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
We do not have brick and mortar store, but being an online store has its pros and cons. I would love if Atlanta had more events for local small businesses to do pop-ups and meet each other and give small businesses a chance to get their name/brand out into the community!
