Lindsay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My work with the healing arts, yoga and ceremony really began with my own personal healing journey. I was a very sensitive child with a big heart and a passion for helping others. Unfortunately, many of our traditional trajectories for children and young adults in modern culture do not encourage sensitivity as a gift or pursuing heart-led professions. Like many others I know, I tried for years to fit myself into the mold of what I thought my family, friends and society would see as valuable and successful. Maybe you can relate? By my mid-twenties, the effects of not living in alignment took a toll on me in the form of depression, anxiety, chronic health issues, and a deep feeling of disconnection from the world and within myself. But in my own experience and from what I’ve seen with so many beautiful souls I’ve had the privilege to work with is that our hearts never really give up on us.
Our hearts never forget our true nature, even if we momentarily do. Through time, intention and support, I was able to unearth and unlearn what was not really in alignment in order to move more deeply into a relationship with myself. I learned what real self-care and boundaries look like for me. I learned how to perceive people and situations with my heart and through their energy rather than how they appeared. I experienced how alignment feels in my body and regained trust in my sensitivities, seeing them as gifts. Really, I remembered how to come back home to myself through healing and releasing what was not really me. I learned to love and more fully embody all the aspects that I really am. I will be forever grateful to the beautiful guides, healers and teachers I have met along my journey, which encouraged me to remember and return to my authentic self.
I am so grateful to have reconnected more deeply with Spirit along the journey. After many years of deep self-excavation and self-healing, it felt so aligned to begin my training and studies to support others on their unique healing journeys and heart-led explorations. One of my teachers, Erin Telford, says we can’t take anyone anywhere that we aren’t willing to go ourselves. This has always deeply resonated with me and encourages me to continually grow and expand alongside my offerings– as the work of healing never really ends. But I’ve experienced so much more connection, spaciousness, wonder, joy, peace and love in my life through doing this work. So to have the opportunity to share some of that with the community and to hold space for someone to be more fully seen and witnessed for who they are is such an honor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I definitely would not say that my own healing journey or path to sharing my work with others has been smooth, but it has been rewarding. I believe in the necessity of exploring the shadow, the inner child and unprocessed trauma and emotions as a core part of the healing process. That can often feel really messy and scary to examine those areas. But I do trust that the courage and effort to do that work is usually worth it. I also don’t experience healing as a linear or a one-time process. We often circle back around to old triggers or relationship dynamics in order to more deeply heal them or to fully understand the medicine of those lessons. It takes a lot of patience and compassion for yourself and others when you do this work. And then to share that work with others—that has been a whole new initiation in healing. Old fears around sharing my voice and being seen in a new way were really vulnerable experiences when I decided to start my business, Embody Soul Healing. But I have been connected to so many strong-hearted and courageous souls in the process that it has started making those fears seem smaller and much less important than what comes from sharing our hearts and journey with the community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Embody Soul Healing was created to provide sacred space and support on your healing journey. I facilitate somatic, emotional and energetic practices to activate the body’s ability to self-heal and to encourage deeper clearings and more authentic alignment. At the core, my offerings are centered on supporting you in self-healing and tuning into your body and heart’s wisdom. I believe our bodies and spirits are innately intelligent and know what we need to heal or move forward. My work offers you support in identifying the barriers that may have made you feel stuck or alone and to help you find the nourishment to heal. The beautiful thing about these modalities are that they meet you where you are, whether you are just beginning to explore the healing arts or you have been on the healing path for some time. Currently, my offerings are centered around Breathwork, Energy Healing, Self-Care and Yoga. I am also planning more Community Ceremonies and Rituals in 2021 to connect more deeply with the Feminine, the Earth and our Hearts. I offer sessions both virtually and in-person around the Atlanta area.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is that I create and hold space where others feel seen and valued for who they are – who they truly are. To know there is nothing innately wrong or bad about our humanness. That there is nothing too dark that cannot be witnessed or healed within us. That it is never too late to change course. That the heart’s wisdom is true and necessary medicine for ourselves and the world. I’ve experienced the magic and medicine that comes when people more fully align with their hearts and purpose through healing. I believe it’s time to honor each other’s unique gifts and souls – to support each other by just being ourselves and creating space for others to do the same. We are in a time where our individual and collective healing is deeply needed. And all healing first starts from within.
