Check Out Bria Waldron’s Story

Hi Bria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Rude Gyal’s Kitchen, Corp. is a Caribbean-based catering company located in Brooklyn, NY. I used my Guyanese and Dominican background to create Rude Gyal’s Kitchen out of her dorm room on the campus of Delaware State University. In April of 2016. I turned my passion for cooking into a business after realizing how frustrated students were with the food choices offered on campus. I had much success being that I was the first person to run a Caribbean food service on campus at the time. Rude Gyal’s Kitchen was an easily accessible service on campus where customers were able to pick up home-cooked meals or have them delivered to their dorms. When I relocated back to Brooklyn post-graduation, I used these small victories on campus as an opportunity to expand my business. Today, Rude Gyal’s Kitchen is strictly a catering service. Meals are sold occasionally during the week. Catering Services offered include but are not limited to events such as birthday parties, corporate lunches, baby showers, private dinners, and much more! We now offer Virtual Group Cooking Classes as well as Private Dinners!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running a business is always a gamble. I quit my job in August to focus on my business and to be a full-time entrepreneur. Some days you make more money than expected and some days you make no money at all. Trying to secure a stable income is sometimes hard but I somehow always figure it out.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Rude Gyal’s Kitchen focuses on customizing meals to make your event come to life. Food is one of the most important aspects for an occasion. Our job is to ensure that our clients have “Real Buss Head Meals” while receiving exceptional customer service.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always open to collaborating with other chefs or businesses. I feel like this is a great way to network and expand clientele on both ends. A simple email: info@rudegyalkitchen.com is a great way to get in contact with me. Support is also free. Reposting my post is a great way to do so. I am also having a Thanksgiving Food Drive on Thanksgiving Day. I am looking for volunteers in our area and we are also collecting monetary donations via our website: www.RudeGyalKitchen.com/events.

This is so inspirational. To see young people of color take a leap of faith and follow their dreams is no small feat. Especially in our community where it’s buried in the DNA to find “a safe job.” Not a career, but a job. No shade for those of us working a job. Lord knows it’s tough out here and most of us are struggling to survive. I’ve got to say, “Brava!” to Bria though on her achievements thus far. Judging from her ability to recognize demand in the market for her catering services followed by Bria’s entrepreneurship and grit to self-actualize her dream, I for one can not wait to see what others achievements the future holds for this amazing business woman.
