Hi Antanesha Hightower, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jalynn, an Atlanta native, and Antanesha started Black Pretty and Paid long before we even knew it. It all began on the illustrious campus of Fayetteville State University, a North Carolina HBCU. We were working on a Student Affairs Proposal together. Jalynn later became the SGA president and Antanesha continued to soar academically. We left college, became sorority sisters, launched our own businesses, and endured plenty of hardships and victories. Many of those experience was a direct reflection of being a strong female entrepreneur of color. We invested in many business coaches and courses, and we realized that these over-saturated fields are helpful, but none of them were centered around or totally geared towards our black communities. This is when Black Pretty and Paid was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“We noticed that our communities need access to high-quality digital products at affordable prices. We instantly dedicated ourselves to creating a platform that appealed to millennial learning styles and work schedules. These are folks who may be juggling school, parenting, caring for elders, working… all the while striving to unlock generational wealth.” “Financially and demographically, many black Americans lack access to finances and affordable professional development,” Jones says. “Black Pretty & Paid University strives to provide the access that our communities need and deserve to create more jobs, businesses, and alumni that have the means to give back to their alma mater.” Hightower adds, “We created Black Pretty & Paid University with a ‘one-stop-shop’ vision in mind. We offer full-service coaching and motivational speaking with natural resources to business development, sales, and marketing. We even desire to land corporate and institutional contracts to train and develop staff with expenses covered by employers as an employee empowerment tool.” It has not been the smoothest road thus far. We are not just business coaches. We are also researchers. We have discovered that it is much harder to get the black community to invest in business coaching. We took a look at why this discovery may be affecting black females in business. Our community has a hard time trusting their leaders, and we understand. We have put things in place to educate female entrepreneurs on the benefits of business coaching, such as mindset training, free courses, and free consultation calls.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
