Hi Richard, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
June 2012, I was in the Army transitioning, and I was sitting in one of the transition classes. I remember sitting down and hearing a fellow soldier say, ”What the F**K am I going to do? I don’t know what else to do with my life; all I have been trained to do is fight”… I sat there with full confidence about my search but hearing that destroyed me, I decided that I wanted to help folks out. So I reviewed resumes, read everyone’s resumes, and decided to read job descriptions daily, and daily, I would be up until 3:00 am and I would work on resumes, and at the time, I wasn’t getting paid for my work. I just wanted to help people win. From 2013-2017, word of mouth spread, and I kept increasing my business, and the leads were coming in.
I established who I was in the area and what I was able to do. I made sure to say YES to clients even if they weren’t in my wheelhouse. I wanted to help my clients come to me and know that I CAN help them! I successfully mastered the DC area and moved on to the Entire United States. I have helped clients in places I’ve never visited, like Idaho and North Dakota. 2018- Present, There is no time like forced entrepreneurship, when you are sitting at home, worried about bills, the mortgage is due, how am I going to take care of my lady, am I worth it? What Do I do now? I had a skill, and I never really challenged myself. I lost my job; I got fired for bogus reasons. I hopped on Linkedin and started sharing my services and my results. My brand was solidified by 2019. IN 2019, 274 clients were hired. It’s 2020, and as of today’s date, November 19th, I have been able to get 269 clients hired during the pandemic. This is my passion, and this is what I do. For some, this is a business or side hobby, but until you have sat there with a client crying about their situation, and You are their last reason for hope… you will know right then in there if this is for you. For me… I love it, the good and the bad, and I’ve had a lot more success than failure, and I am blessed.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it was not a smooth road. I relied on word of mouth for years; no one told me about Linkedin and other places to get leads and services. For a long time, everything I did was based on someone’s recommendation, and it grew and grew. People didn’t see the value in what I bring; people don’t want to pay for professional development but will spend money on other things. A resume wasn’t that important, so I had to convince people to spend their money on me and, in return, help them grow. Competing with fakes and household names, many people give resume writers a bad reputation, and some folks just don’t care. So I dealt with a lot of No’s and a lot of people shutting me down. On top of that, there are more African American females in this specific industry, and they are doing well, but there aren’t many black males like myself, which presented a challenge.

What sets me apart from other resume writers and coaches, I actually do the things that my clients do, I go to interviews, I apply to jobs, I reach out to people, and I do this to know the market and feel the pulse of the market. I don’t write cool posts and cool graphics, I bring results and everything I do is based upon results. Right now, my biggest accomplishment is that I am going to exceed my total of clients hired and it’s going to happen during this Pandemic,
How do you think about happiness?
Seeing people win, I love seeing people succeed and helping them. I am a caring and nurturing person, this is a part of who I am, this fulfills me. I know my life is about helping people and this right here has given me more joy than you can imagine.
