Inspiring Conversations with Erica Sullivan of momE

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Sullivan.

Hi Erica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Erica Sullivan. I started my brand momE when I became a single mom back in 2011. As a single mom, I struggled to find my way. And when I looked for resources during my hardships, there were none that actually spoke on the truth about being a single mom. So I started the momE blog. I shared a lot of my personal story of how I struggled and how I overcame. I was able to connect with so many women who were in the same boat as me. As time passed, I got engaged and my entire life changed. I went from being a single mom to a wife and stepmom. When that happened, I had to take a step back from the brand to figure out what direction I wanted to move in. Being a single mom was all I knew, so making such a large switch was going to be a shock to my followers and readers. But I didn’t want to leave my girls. I wanted all the moms who had reached out over the years to still feel like I was right there with them.

After taking a year off, I came back stronger than ever. Fully ready to attack motherhood, step-parenting, being a wife, and then pregnant again. With the relaunch came so much. I started a clothing line, an influencer side job, and hosting events. I found my voice in my new lane but also was able to still connect with my old readers. Learning to balance it all seemed like a lot at the time, but I was able to find my groove. After investing in my brand and linking up with a coach, I was able to grow my social media following and really make an impact in my community. I didn’t just tell my story, I started helping others learn to blog, create, and plan to live on purpose. momE Clean started during the pandemic of 2020 when I struggled to find cleaning products left in stores that were safe to use around my children. After creating the cleaning products and sharing them online, the request was overwhelming for me to sell them. So, I just did. The brand has really taken off in the last five months and it’s growing more and more each day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting out it was fairly smooth because I had no real expectations. But as time went on and more people started hitting the scene as an influencer and blogger, the struggle got pretty real! It took a lot to balance it all. Being a mom full-time, having a full-time job, writing blogs, working late at night on my business, and then add being married. It wasn’t easy. I found, too, that I lost a lot of people along the way. Friends who weren’t supportive and who even stole some of my ideas. But with God’s grace and my drive to be the best me I could be, I pushed forward. In the midst of any hard times, I just worked harder. When it came to my newfound business with momE Clean, I found it was a passion, and with any passion project, you get more joy in the process. Which made it a lot easier to keep going!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
momE LLC is a brand built around helping women to live on purpose. From DIY activities for families, decor, crafts, lifestyle organization, marriage tips and tricks, and all-natural cleaning products, we do it all! We are currently focusing on expanding our momE Clean line! Our goal is to bring clean, nontoxic products into all homes to help children and families live a nontoxic life. We believe that our bodies are temples and we want to do all we can to live longer and healthier lives.

Most cleaning product brands are full of harmful chemicals and are just outright dangerous to use in or around children. So we are changing that. But we don’t want to just make clean products. We want to create products that actually work. So we focus on creating what moms need, stain removers and all-purpose sprays. I am the proudest of the relationship that I have with my mom’s tribe. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They probably help me more every day than they know. I find encouragement in their words and comments. I get joy out of connecting with like-minded women. There is nothing like finding a friend through social media that you would have never linked up with otherwise and just connect!

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I would have to say I was completely the opposite of what you might think. I was a huge tomboy and had no intentions of ever getting married, let alone having kids. I was very rough around the edges. All my friends were boys because I didn’t like girlie things. But now I am the total opposite, well, in some ways. I have a huge family. Three sisters and we are all super close. My parents are still happily married and we always spent time together. I get much of my family-centered ideals from them.
