Today we’d like to introduce you to Latonya Jackson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began this journey into the fashion world in 2006 at Savannah College of Art and Design, better known as SCAD. There I learned what I loved about the fashion world and what I absolutely did not like. I majored in fashion design; however, as I continued to study and research I found that my love was geared more towards wardrobe styling and personal shopping. I love love love… did I say love (LOL) to shop! As a graduate, I began to pursue my career as a wardrobe stylist in 2011. I was blessed with several opportunities to include working on high-end photoshoots with celebrity photographers and other celebrity stylists on editorial shoots, red carpet appearances, and so much more.
After relocating, wardrobe styling wasn’t as prominent in my area. However, I was still and will always be the personal wardrobe stylist among my friends and family, their fashion one call that’s all! My advice for them is usually to add an embellishment of some sort, a pair of statement earrings for a pop of color or a thin necklace for a simple but classic feel, a scarf, or a pair of frames, that extra something to complete their look. With these things in mind, Embellished Jewelry Company was born, a web-based jewelry store where I can now help Embellish women All over the world with the perfect accessories to complete any look for any occasion.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Having been a wardrobe stylist, it was a no brainer for me to become a jewelry boutique owner when I was presented with the opportunity. However, I have definitely been met with my fair share of hurdles along the way. Trying to figure out how to gain and keep the momentum on my website or watching sales soar one day and plummet the next or can be discouraging at times, but I’m resilient so I choose daily to continue to thrive despite the hardships. Seeing the confidence women exude when they put on something they’ve purchased from Embellished sparks an excitement inside of me that tells me I’m doing the right thing at the right time and just keep jumping those hurdles one at a time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a jewelry boutique owner and wardrobe stylist at heart. I’ve known for my quintessential style and my attention to detail. I have the skill to make things pop by pairing them with just the right accessories. I am proud to be in a position where I can help women feel beautiful, be bold, be confident and do it with class.
How do you think about happiness?
Ultimately, family. They are why I push as hard as I do. Having my husband supports me and believes in me as well as our son that looks up to me. They have driven me to create a business that I love that is complete with purpose, fulfillment and constant motivation to continue pushing my dreams to the next level.
