Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Daniel.
Hi Tanisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When Covid-19 first hit, fortunately, I was still working. The company I worked for migrated everyone to work from home, which was great. It allowed for me to spend more time with my daughter which is always a good thing! Obviously with Covid, there was no outside life. Even for me, commuting back and forth from work took hours out of my day. So Covid did put a huge halt on everything and made life slow down. When things slow down you are able to focus on what’s important and for me it was a future for my daughter. During a time where the future became fuzzy and uncertain when it comes to financials, I had to do something that would not only keep income coming in but also provide some bit of a financial future for my daughter. She is two years old and it full of unbridled joy!
Everyday she teaches me a way to be better. To be a better mom and overall better individual. She is my little best friend and of course girls like to have fun! Fashion has always been something I am interested in but having my own little mini me to dress was just even more fun. So why not make what is fun to me lucrative? I see many entrepreneurs in the fashion business but hardly any in fashion for kids! I had to jump on the idea! After months of research, consults with different entrepreneurs, and much money spent Pearl Lilies was born! The name came from things that are very precious to me. My late grandmother’s name was Pearlie and one of my favorite flowers are lilies! I made my debut in August 1, 2020 and my launch day was amazing! I am still filled with gratitude of all the support on that day. Even though sales go up and down, it doesn’t stop my passion to want to provide fashion for kids. My goal was for Pearl Lilies to be cute and affordable and everyday I find more ways to do that.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have had really good days and some not so much. Being an introvert turned entrepreneur has its struggles. I am not much of a social media person at all. Sometimes it is difficult for me to post everyday. I had to find ways around it because social media is the best platform for advertising. I mean, it’s free! I have days where I post little to nothing and that doesn’t give much exposure to Pearl Lilies. Of course the more the people see it, the more they are influenced to buy. And let’s be honest, sales are always a plus!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been in Healthcare Administration for sometime now. This line of business has helped me improve my soft skills, patient care, and customer service. What sets me apart from others is my ability in being relatable but also my interest in being more than what is expected of me. I may not have all the skills for one job but I will assure that I will not only acquire them but master them in the process. Knowledge is always something that is intangible. I just recently completed my studies in achieving my Masters in Business Administration. I feel I can ‘master’ anything!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Getting to know your audience is key when in business. I tend to look for styles that I like and would want on my daughter but truth has it, everyone doesn’t have the same taste. With that piece of knowledge, I have to remind myself that even if sales are not up that day, it is ok. One day does not define the outcome of my business. We grow everyday at Pearl Lilies!
