Meet Bria Lynn Nelson of ‘CEG Management’ and ‘Black and Bougiee’ in Metro-Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bria Lynn Nelson.

Bria, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
CEG Management was an idea that I had brewing for a while, actually. I had just graduated from Kennesaw State with my degree in Public Relations and Marketing and had a ton of social media experience under my belt. I had done so many internships with recording studios, marketing companies and individuals in the entertainment industry, and I loved doing each one of them and realized that I had a knack for branding and digital marketing.

Because I had made so many connections and done so many internships in college, getting clients lined up and people interested in my brand wasn’t difficult at all! I am very grateful for those relationships I developed that have me now managing multiple small businesses!

As far as Black and Bougiee; my good friend Amber and I decided that we needed a space where feminine, glamorous and girly black women who loved the color pink could bond and create relationships with one another. A lot of times, women who have these qualities are deemed ‘bougiee’ or ‘uppity’ or ‘snooty’; and we really just wanted to give ‘bougiee’ a positive connotation. We wanted a space to let women know that there is nothing wrong with being ‘high-maintenance’ or ‘bougiee’ and to own their femininity!

We were honestly surprised at how much support we got when starting Black and Bougiee, and since then, we have gained thousands of followers, hosted a number of Branding Sessions and Bougiee Sleepovers via zoom and overall, just created an amazing community of black women!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. A long time ago, a mentor of mine told me that in order for anything to be successful, you have to invest. Whether it be time, money, energy… something is going to have to be put in for excellence to come out! And she was absolutely right: I have found myself investing all three of these things into both of my brands. There have been a lot of late nights, a lot of strategic budgeting and a lot of planning.

Even though the road hasn’t always been easy, it has definitely felt worth it for me. I know what the desired end goal is for both brands and what it’s going to take to make these goals happen!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about ‘CEG Management’ and ‘Black and Bougiee’ – what should we know?
CEG Management is a Public Relations and Marketing agency that provides consultations, social media strategy and public relations to businesses! My brand offers branding sessions, branding worksheets, social media management and a plethora of other things needed for any brand to establish a relationship with its target audience. I am definitely known for my girly, pink and preppy presence! Even though I have serviced types of brands, those that are more feminine and dainty tend to gravitate towards CEG.

What sets CEG Management apart from other brands is that we strive is not solely to sell small brands a service, my ultimate goal is to help them figure out who they are as a brand and what role I can play in that discovery! My desire is to be of assistance to every business that needs it, and in today’s society, a lot of businesses get so caught up in trying to get a brand to pay them to become a client, they forget to sit down with the owner and talk through what exactly it is they really need.

I am most proud of the fact that I can honestly say that I am building two brands that represent everything I am… girly, classy, elegant, glamorous and bougiee! I am proud that the women in my life (my mentors, my mother, my sisters and the ladies of Black and Bougiee) are seeing me as a black woman, manifesting everything it is I want for myself and my life. I want to motivate other women like me to push to make every dream of theirs a reality.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I first and foremost have to give credit to God, He has given me all the things that I needed to start and maintain my brands; and I know that all thanks should be given to Him. I also want to thank my mentor Ms. Keshia and her mother, Ms. Denise, who has introduced me to so many people and helped me to create relationships that have become an asset to both CEG Management and Black and Bougiee. I also have to give credit to my mother for being my biggest cheerleader! She keeps me going when I barely know if I can myself; I am extremely blessed to have a woman like her in my life. I also have to thank my father for being my soundboard! He is actually the reason I got into Public Relations and Marketing (I always tell people that I ‘followed in daddy’s footsteps’) and he gives me a lot of advice when making strategic business decisions; having a close resource and confidant like him in my life has been so beneficial to my brand and me.

As far as Black and Bougiee specifically, I have to thank my amazing co-founder Amber Brookins! She is truly one of the most hardworking and creative people I have ever met. She has so many great ideas and an amazing personality that is great for interacting with and engaging the ladies in our Black and Bougiee community; creating and running this brand with her has definitely been a blessing!
