Daily Inspiration: Meet Indigo Suave

Today we’d like to introduce you to Indigo Suave, formally known as Michael Osei-Wusu.

Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Film has been something I was always interested in but never had the time to pursue growing up. I was always so busy with school and soccer I never had the time. However, through soccer, I was able to get into Princeton, which is something I will forever be grateful for. In my freshman year, I finally had the opportunity to chase something, something that I wanted and really dedicate my time to. And the film was there knocking in my mind saying it was time to let him in. My freshman year consists of taking literature and film classes. That summer, I was able to intern for LET Networks, a place where I learned to grow in creativity. During that summer, I also started to work in creating visuals for music for my friend and artist Lulu.

In the fall of my sophomore year, I founded my own production company called ASUAVEPRODUCTION. The content I had been creating had that time has seriously ramped up. A mix between my own personal projects and also music visuals I had done that summer with my friend. Two years have passed and I have continued this work ethic to where I’m at today. Coronavirus had set back a lot of my problems but I’m a still most grateful for my health and that of my family and friends. I took a gap year to step aside and learn a lot more about the art of creating films, and more importantly myself. I’ve been creating and learning more than ever this past year and into this one. I’m set to graduate in 2022 and have high hopes for my senior thesis film, which all this planning, preparation, and learning is for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t been smooth but it has never been hazardous. The obstacles and troubles I have had are those only of my craft. Those are challenges you want. Pushing myself to learn and grow in my field by failing at projects. I have never bat my eye and keep going. Forward is the only way. Besides my failures in creating, I have been blessed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a film director and visual artist. I currently make short films, music videos, and 3D visual projects. However, I like to call what I create visual poetry. It’s a form of the visual display where words and visuals express the same story and reflect each other effortlessly. It’s how well you can translate the written words to moving pictures where elements move so seemingly together. Where a song becomes a video and where a video becomes a song, that is what sets me apart and what I’m so proud of. This is how I see my work, and it is what I believe others will see in my work one day. I have released three visual projects that reflect his idea: Alchemy, Farewell, and Starcaster. These songs I have created a visual project for with Lulu. They’re on YouTube and on my IG page.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was really like any kid. Just goofy as hell going to school and playing a sport. And also just trying to play video games when I can. Always been more of Fifa guy than 2K. I also loved watching movies back then too. I would always print my favorite monologues from TV and movies and would always attempt to act them out in my bedroom mirror. My interest in creating films and visuals actually came from my love to act grown up. I used to think it was becoming an actor that was my dream until I realized it was my love for the character, my love for storytelling that had me wanting to act. My heart was in telling stories and expressing a feeling.
