Hi Shanita, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Around the time my child was one year old, he started to develop eczema. At the time we were heavily using the products that the doctors were giving and nothing was working. His eczema was actually getting worse. I started to see that he was on the same path that I was on and I did not want that. I grew up with severe eczema and my mom and I tried every single thing that we could to alleviate my discomfort and heal my skin. I started making skincare products when he was about four years old.
At this time, I was heaving in the holistic approach to healing the body. It wasn’t until I left my full-time job that I actually had the time to start Empress Tingz. Two wonderful years later and my focus has still been helping those with eczema and providing a steroid-free alternative, but I have branched off into a full-fledged skincare line. I chose to create an entire skincare line because I want every single person in this universe to have the confidence to walk out of their homes knowing their skin is clear and glowing. No more hiding behind long pants, turtlenecks, big jackets, and makeup.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Haha, no, it has not been a smooth road. Running a business is not as straightforward as they try to make it seem in school. There are so many things that they do not tell you and it causes you to stumble along the way. I struggled heavily in marketing and the operations of running my business and I went to school for it!! Trying to get your brand shown to the world is also a hard, hard task. It can be discouraging when you know you have a great product and people aren’t always receptive to what you’re offering. Lastly, being that I am an introvert, it was hard selling and talking to people. I’m that person that wants people to come to me but in business, it HAS to be the opposite. I’ve worked hard over the years to build up my confidence to talk to people. I’m not all the way there but I’m improving.

I specialize in helping people heal their skin. Whether it be from eczema, dry skin, hyperpigmentation, oily skin, etc. We are not one of those companies that is just throwing a skincare brand at you to make money. I truly want to help people. I lived a life of low self-esteem and hating my skin. I know what it feels like and that’s the drive I put into my business every day. I also don’t want any parent to EVER feel what me or my mother felt when seeing your child in so much discomfort from having a skin ailment. I make everything with love. I never create when I am upset or my vibrations are low. I want each person to feel the love that I have every time they use my products. We offer a wide variety of products from soaps, mist, toners, scrubs, body butters, hair oils etc. We definitely don’t discriminate. Our products are for men too!
What makes you happy?
Being a mother makes me happy. Knowing that I am helping other mothers makes me happy. I love when a parent tells me that their child’s eczema is not flaring up after using my products or that their baby has significantly stopped itching. It warms my heart to hear these reviews. Also, being at peace makes me happy. No matter what that looks like.
