Today we’d like to introduce you to Kief Brown.
Hi Kief, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started in 2007 on my journey and oh how it has been just that! From mediocre neighborhood indie labels to major label shenanigans. I was first signed at 18 years old by a local independent label, we eventually did a partnership with Major label Universal Motown, who by the way, thought I could use some wisdom from the likes of the One and Only self-proclaimed “king of the South” Ti so add Grand Hustle right into that same blender and there I was! Such a small fish in a big ocean. That particular situation didn’t have the success I was looking for at that time in life so I began writing more. In 2010 I did a lot of work with a producer by the name of Kane Beatz. In the mist of just having fun some kind of way we produced and wrote Lupe Fiasco’s Smash hit The Show Goes On, yielding millions of records sold, top chart positions, # Grammy Nominations and oh yeah, a little money to go with it! Staying the course, I went on to write for some of today’s biggest stars and had a chance to learn from a different perspective than before.
This go-round I would be behind the scenes instead of in front. As time went by I realized that light was still calling my name. Every time I tried to avoid it or runaway it would follow me from state to state, studio to studio, artist to artist as they would always inquire why I wasn’t an artist anymore shortly after I’d played a few records I had written for them! That would eventually bring me right back here, to where I started and where I must finish. This time around I’m in it for a different type of success, though. I was blessed with the opportunity to see both sides of the industry and that showed me about legacy. What we leave behind after we’re long gone will remind the world of our voices, question is, what will yours say? I know mine will forever inspire, forever motivate and forever love. After all, what would the world be like without Mr. Kief Brown and now I understand that!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t say smooth, but I’m still here! Actually, the bumps and bruises along the way are what make the best stories for the kids around the campfire! When they ask why didn’t you quit or just do it the “normal” way, I can answer honestly. It’s because every time I was reminded of a failure or a struggle in the past, it made me want victory in the future that much more.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I inspire. My specialty would have to be motivation, and hopefully, I’m known so far mostly for never quitting. The road I travel will become a map for younger generations and I am very proud of that. I think I stand out from the bunch mostly because I am always willing to serve others, no matter the circumstances. Some artists tend to think servitude is the “way to the top,” I on the other hand, believe it is the “way of the top.”
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Always I mean always put GOD first, when the smoke clears only thing you actually have is your spirit. Think about it, even your fleshly body can be broken, but your spirit is the leverage. Just knowing that through GOD, you can do all things will lift your spirit from the burning ashes every time! Message!!!!
