Today we’d like to introduce you to Kortez Hopkins.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It started as a young man, I knew I always wanted to work for myself. After the military, I always had my mindset on being able to work for myself and put my family and myself in a better position. In 2020 I just knew that I had to let the fear go and jump out on faith. I literally was working at the prison and one day I woke up and said I am not going back. The environment and the way they carried themselves I knew I did not want to be apart of any of that. The day I woke up and decided to start my detailing business.
I literally started out at my home and would have all my clients, which were mostly people I knew or family, to come by. I have had a passion for transforming cars as long as I can remember. After about 30 days, I went and purchased a truck and started to provide mobile services. The support was so great before being in business for about 45 days, I purchased a pick-up and a brand new trailer so that I could have more than enough room to haul everything I needed while detailing. I have to say thank you to my wife who was behind the scenes setting up websites and handling all the administrative side of things. After the business taking off, I decided to expand and push a lawn service as well. I would just have to say, overall, I have been lucky to have so many people trust in me and provide their support. Things are definitely looking up for HopLawnsWash and we’re even more excited to see what the new year will bring in 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth the entire way! I have had so many things try to hold me back but I was able to push through. I remember having my equipment stolen off the back of my truck while I was feeding my employees. We were inside grabbing food and when I returned, my truck had been hit. The only thing they could detach was the pressure washer. I had been upset that day and took to social media explaining what happened and for everyone to be on the lookout and when I did that, almost everyone whom I have come across or knew from school or the military started sending me money. They see what I had started and they would not let me quit. The entire community rallied and I was back in business the same day. Things are definitely rough but if you have a strong foundation and do right by people, someone will always be there to help you out.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in mobile detailing and lawn care services. I am known for leaving the floor room shine on the cars and cutting the lines in the yard, leaving the football field images. I love being able to provide services to the residents of Atlanta. I take complete pride in what I do and so do my employees. I most proud of getting off the ground and jumping out on faith. I did not know that the support would be this way. I wanted to give up in the beginning while it was a little slow but I stuck it out and business had picked up and I was booked on a daily. I think my work ethic sets me apart. One of the most valuable traits I received while in the military. I will not let anyone outwork me.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would have to say my professionalism. I carry myself with the utmost respect and pride. I have customers who are older and I still answer yes ma’am, no ma’am and yes sir and no sir. They love the respect and being able to deal with someone who has home training. My attitude and my charisma as well I keep them laughing and don their toes.
