Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Franklin.
Hi Charles, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
From early childhood, I’ve always had a love for art and computers. I remember in 4th/5th grade, I would draw Bart Simpson in different nationalities and different attire for my classmates. At school, my favorite day of the week was Thursday because that’s when we went to the computer lab to play Organ Trail and learn about the fundamentals of computers and floppy disks (I’m telling my age)… Over the years, my love for the arts and technology grew. Graduating from high school and enrolling in Art School in Savannah, GA, with dreams of becoming a Medical Illustrator, then transferring to experience HBCU life in Alabama. Today I’m the founder and owner of Yarding Technologies LLC, a boutique technology firm that specializes in affordable custom portrait illustrations and web/mobile design.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s never a smooth road. Entrepreneurship has its struggles in general. From pivoting to raising capital. It’s one obstacle after another but it’s a great ride. Entrepreneurship is somewhat of an addiction for me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an Aquarius so some would say I’m “naturally” creative. I create custom hand-drawn illustrations of life’s most memorable moments. My portrait illustrations are under 80$ making custom art affordable for everyone. This is what sets us apart from competitors and other creatives. What I’m most proud of and excited about is Leadfoot App we’ve created. A mobile app that allows like-minded individuals to vent and release road rage in a safe way. Leadfoot aims to bridge a community of road ragers who need to let some steam out and share their story of driving disapproval to those that best understand them. With the platform to say what’s on your mind and get it off your chest, people will feel a surge of relief exiting their bodies and feel ready to tackle the road with a smidge more patience than before. Leadfoot is fun yet serves a purpose and strives to decrease the amount of road rage fatalities we see daily in our nation.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up in Middle Georgia on a military base, I have quite a few memories, but some of my favorite childhood memories is traveling. Both my parents have a lot of siblings, so every summer, we would take road trips to Texas, Chicago, Mississippi, or Alabama to visit family. Some of the best memories came from those trips. To this day, I live for road trips and traveling.
