Today we’d like to introduce you to Laila Shakir.
Hi Laila, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Since I was able to start working, I always had to grind to get what I wanted/needed. I was raised by a single mom that did her best to provide for my sister and I. My grandfather helped when he could but I needed to be able to provide for myself as well. Instead of attending football/basketball games or hanging out with friends, I would be hustling to get as many hours as I could at McDonalds. I believe that instilled a great work ethic in me at a young age. Even though it sucked missing out on teenage things, it molded me into the businesswoman I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road to get to where I am today. Always having to worry about money. Even as a teenager, it was stressful at times. For an example, when I started working when I was 16, I was always super tired in the morning so I would sleep through my first period. If it wasn’t for my amazing friends in my math class, I would’ve definitely failed (shoutout to yall). Those same struggles followed me through college and esthetics school.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am the proud owner of Slayy By Layy Esthetics, LLC. I have been an esthetician for almost three years now however, I started my business in June 2020. As an esthetician, I specialize in corrective skin care. I believe my passion for correcting skin and increasing confidence sets me apart from others. Having skin issues can make you very self-conscious so it’s my job to guide my client’s through their skincare journey. I am there for them every step of the way through the ups and downs so we can get their skin healthy and glowing!

My testimony will always be no matter your background, no matter what you have been through, no matter the struggles, YOU CAN WIN! Have faith, put in the work, believe in yourself and never give up!
