Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory
Hello, I am Lauren, the CEO of Curvy Betty Wines, LLC, a premium handcrafted wine company in Atlanta, GA. I founded Curvy Betty out of my passion for fine quality wine. I started this business out of my apartment in Athens, Ga. Traveling over 2 hours to deliver to my precious customers all over Georgia, I was determined and passionate about building a brand that people loved and that I was proud of. I then expanded my business when I purchased a home in Atlanta in 2020. This gave me the ability to make wine and deliver to my customers quickly. Through sheer will, determination, and a strong belief that I could bring a quality wine to market that customers desired, I overcame steep learning curves and other challenges, all while pursuing my M.Ed. After countless hours, attempts, and much research, I arrived at a formulation I believed customers would find pleasing and that met my requirements – No aftertaste, no cheap fillers that lead to hangovers, only clean, organic high-quality ingredients to please the palate and enhance the enjoyment of any experience. That’s what I wanted to create! Quality wine that people love.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Curvy Betty Wines LLC was not on the smoothest road to start. Presented with challenges such as marketing issues, extensive traveling, financial struggles, all of that played a huge role. It is the challenges that mold and make a business strong. What can you withstand? It is your perseverance that will take you to the next level and your faith that will keep you, even when you feel like falling and giving up. I’m not scared. Can’t say that I’ve never felt like the underdog, but never fearful. Always excited and anxious to leap over that next hurdle and take opportunity. I had to learn that you get out what you put in. Put in the work, get the results and that is exactly what I plan to continue to do with Curvy Betty Wines.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The main lesson that I learned as a business owner was don’t be afraid to fly. With so many loved ones and people close to us falling ill, not being able to have close contact with people, resources running dry for some, we have to realize that tomorrow is not guaranteed and neither is your position in employment. I know many people who have lost work at this time. Having a brand, being able to own something and having the ability to still make product, produce sales and thrive is important. Especially during a recession such as this we have to stay strong in our faith and have the courage to create something that will never run dry.
