Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Jordan.
Maria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was raised in PG, Maryland. I was always creative with a strong love for music, entrepreneurship, and culture. I remember when I was around ten years old pretending to have my own radio show on my karaoke machine. I would play all the hits and talk about all of the latest entertainment gossips that I read in “Word Up Magazine.” That was when my love for radio started. I went to Drexel University for Music. While in college, I started my first company, Self-Explanatory productions. In 2006, I moved to Atlanta to expand my brand. While in Atlanta, I begin my career in radio. In 2018 I was created my own radio show, Afternoon Tea Radio, which airs on iHeartRadio, Spotify, iTunes, Google podcast, and Atlanta’s WWWE REAL 1100 am. The show is an international radio show and podcast runs a gamut from inspirational stories to extraordinary people who redefine stereotypes to interviews with celebrities.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have always been a woman who “went for it.” I was raised to believe I can do anything I set my mind to. Although I always had the courage to start, I learned the hard way the importance of planning and a team. Not properly planning made me work harder than smarter. I was doing everything on my own instead of focusing on my strengths and hiring experts in areas I lacked knowledge.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Professionally, I am a Radio Personality, Host, Motivational Speaker, and Author. But my favorite titles include Wife, Mother, and Mentor. I am the creator and co-host of the Afternoon Tea Radio show and podcast and Women 2 Women Wednesday’s with MJ. I published my first children’s book, The Secret Keeper – Perfect the Way You Are in 2018 and the Special Edition will be released in the first quarter of 2021. My goal is to create a dialogue that broadens perspective and highlights respect and love through all of my titles. One of the highlights of my career was being selected to moderate for Red Table Talk Live with Jada Pinkett-Smith and Adrienne Norris. I learned through that experience that you never know whose watching your work. I’ve had the opportunity to interview celebrities like Kel Mitchel, Hazel-E, Shanice and Flex Alexander, Monique Steward, and Robert Richards.
