Today we’d like to introduce you to Sable Long.
Hi Sable, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am Sable, the creator and owner of Sunflowerlove.net. I am Georgia-born, Atlanta bred, all about the 404! I come from a family of creatives, musicians, entrepreneurs, and world travelers. As the baby of five, I’m a compilation of all of our talents. My first love within the arts is Jazz music, my dad played it all the time. Tied in second place is my love for dance and cooking/baking. I was in the company at Total Dance Dancical Productions. I was always in the kitchen with my mom. My grandma had me on a step stool at the stove when we visited, I listened intently, to this day, I miss her so much.
In regards to my siblings, my sister is a triple threat: singer, broadway performer and professional dancer. I have seen her in beauty pageants and singing the national anthem at a baseball game. My brothers did break dancing, drawing and exposed me to different genres of music. I also had pro tennis training in my adolescence, a pretty well-rounded childhood. I grew to be a firm believer in self-efficacy and catering to my old soul. I was born with grey hair so I believe wisdom was passed down to me beyond my years. My life goal is to leave a lasting, loving, encouraging and powerful path that survives beyond my years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My largest challenge is being camera shy. In an age run by social media, this is the only way to have a presence. I have to show that I am real and relatable in order to find and connect to my target audience. With videos going live, and stories at some point, my audience has to see my face and hear my voice. The next challenge was the COVID-19 pandemic. Access to ingredients and materials that I needed was scarce and delivery took a month or so. Seeing the light amidst all this, I told myself if all these large retailers are making millions, there is a way for me to keep my business going as well. Motivating myself, I say: ‘Do it now!’ I don’t live with regrets. Its either an achievement or a growth opportunity. Never a loss, always a lesson. I refuse to say, ‘Why didn’t I try this or I should have done that’ Everything I put my mind to will come to fruition. I am given the vision for a reason.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The inspiration for sunflowerlove.net is my maternal grandmother. I remember as a toddler playing through her sunflower garden under her kitchen window, she played music for them too. She would come out and say, ‘Now get from in there!’ I would giggle, she reached down between the petals, the Florida sun blazed behind her illumination her beauty, she picked me up and I remember the feeling of her skin soft like silk, her hugs made me melt, her laugh was one of my greatest joys. I created the recipe for the brown sugar body scrub to make my skin feel like hers. She always said treat your skin like a baby. I take pride in my courage, confidence, creativity and perseverance to keep going with my business. Sunflower Love has bath and skincare products for all gender identities, tailored towards sensitive skin and caring for yourself through self and soul care affirmations. I am able to provide solutions that leave your skin moisturized and soft throughout the day. I am looking for others ready to improve their skincare routine. Who do you know?
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My determination is the most important to my success. When I start on pursuing a goal, it will be executed professionally, at my own pace and with precision.
