Life & Work with Aisha Frazier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aisha Frazier.

Hi Aisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I start this journey over 20+ years. My mother taught me the basics; when it came to Crocheting, I was around ten years old at the time. Years past and I just had my first son and was not working, I was an at-home mom, So I needed something to do and create. Growing up I always was creating something, if it was drawing or make handmade jewelry. So, I found my yarn and hooks and started making blankets, hats, scarfs, and baby clothes. Had a lot of complement on my crochet pieces. Then, I found my love because one day a friend asked me to make them a bathing suit, something I never made before, but what helped me is that I can also sew. So I created a template in my head of how I would sew a bathing suit with fabric, and that where I started. That is where I realize that there was a market for crochet swimwear and beachwear. This is where Essential Essences Crochet came into fruition. I have been making beachwear for a while now. I use all-natural fibers, my favorite is using cotton thread/yarn because it works the best in water, and the easiest to care for. I have grown with my Crochet business, I placed my pieces a store in lil five points Atlanta called Earthtone and also online on my website, www.essentialessencescrochet.com. My favorite thing to do is fashion shows, it keeps my creative juices going and to motivate me to outdo myself every show.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. With this business, I have been doing this for many years and realize the older I get that I do not need to focus on the struggles and just keep moving forward. Opportunity is always coming my way and when it comes I will embrace it and enjoy the moment.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a fiber arts designer. I crochet swimwear, beachwear and even make my own handmade jewelry but my specialty is crochet beachwear. I am most known for my creative bathing suits. All my pieces are freehand and made with the best quality fibers. I am most proud of the support and love I receive from my family and the Crochet Community. What sets me apart is that every piece I make is different and unique in its own way. I never make the same piece twice and that what makes it special to the person wearing it.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am contently looking for inspiration for my pieces, my favorite apps is Pinterest and YouTube Music. Music videos give me the most inspiration because I am a very visual person.
