Meet Lauren Madison

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Madison.

Hi Lauren, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My photography journey started back in high school when I took a photography class where we learned how to use old film cameras and develop the film in a dark room. I eventually got a digital camera and started doing shoots for friends and family which gradually turned into paid shoots. When I moved to Charleston SC I knew I was ready to focus my skills on wedding photography and I’m so glad I did. There’s something so inherently romantic about the south, the big oaks trees, the Spanish moss, the cobblestone roads – it’s the perfect place to capture a love story. It’s been a long journey and there will always be more to learn but I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. 🙂

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think following your dreams is ever a smooth road. Sometimes the road will be windy, other times you may be driving too fast or too slowly but if you persevere you’ll get as far as you allow yourself to go. Most of the challenges I’ve had have come from within, it’s hard to pursue your passions when you’re expected to “get a reliable job” and “be realistic”. I had a hard time unlearning this frame of mind and had to let go of self-doubt. Once you realize you’re in charge of your own future you can start to create the future you want.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Charleston based wedding and engagement photographer. I also offer family and maternity sessions but really specialize in couples and weddings. I’ve recently become obsessed with film photography and am starting to learn how to shoot film as well. My goal is to be a hybrid shooter (film & digital). I’m very proud of how far my business has come in such a short time. 🙂

What does success mean to you?
I define success as happiness. I think our society encourages us to correlate success with materialistic items and money but at the end of the day these items only provide temporarily happiness. Self-fulfillment is what truly makes us successful. We need to ask ourselves what are we passionate about? What truly makes us happy? Once you have this answer you need to chase that passion and you will find yourself living a successful life.
