Hi Cara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Cara Chanel of By Cara Chanel, LLC. I am a creative, brand/social media consultant and influencer. I’m originally from Akron, OH by way of Jacksonville, FL. At 16, I relocated to Mississippi to attend Ole Miss to study Nursing but quickly changed my major after realizing I was passionate and skilled elsewhere. There I discovered my passion for beauty while studying Integrated Marketing Communications. During my time at Ole Miss, I worked with MAC Cosmetics until deciding to enroll in an esthetics program when I relocated after school to Memphis, TN. After working exclusively in the beauty industry as a licensed esthetician with certifications in medical esthetics & professional makeup artistry I earned over eight years of experience. Feeling the need in my business to pivot and diversify what I could offer to others, I decided to expand my business beyond esthetics. Experiencing firsthand, the initial obstacles entrepreneurs faced, I knew I wanted to find a solution to offer support and guidance through branding & consulting services. My professional experience includes working with several celebrity, digital, and small-business clients. I currently reside in Atlanta, GA, running my business By Cara Chanel. LLC and networking – dinner event series: The Dinner Club by Cara Chanel.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to this point hasn’t been a smooth one but that’s life and the beauty of it. My first year in Atlanta, I struggled with getting quality opportunities to use my beauty experience and license to “make it,” and quickly got discouraged. After a couple of months of being in a new city, I quit my job and started back bartending which was always a safety net for me and using Airbnb to make money from my apartment every weekend. Eventually because of bartending my network expanded. The roller-coaster of finding your true footing and tribe in a new city continued, however I was growing rebuilding my confidence and didn’t let it stop me. Last year was a challenging for everyone however it gave room for pause to focus on my other talents. I believe, in the face of obstacles and setbacks it’s all about how you choose to come back and learn how to be better.
