Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyesha James.
Hi Tyesha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Tyesha James. As a native of Hyattsville, Maryland, hair styling has been a major passion of mine since the age of 12.Self-taught, I started braiding and doing trendy cornrow styles on family and friends.In September 2007, I decided to turn my passion into purpose. I enrolled into Georgia Career Institute and obtained my Master Cosmetology license shortly after graduating in 2008. With over ten years’ experience, I made a commitment to learning everything there is to know about the beauty industry and continue to do so today. During the pandemic, I took a leap of faith and opened my very own salon suite. This is by far one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made. My main goal is to ensure every single young lady and woman that sits in my chair look and feel beautiful. Healthy hair is what we all strive for and I am able to achieve that goal through any desired style.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not always but God is so good to me. Things took a turn in 2019 when the Salon that I’ve worked in for over five years and then eventually took over, caught on fire. Devastated, I had to quickly relocate. I was welcomed with open arms in a salon in Sandy Springs, GA which was the start of a new beginning.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
It’s true what they say: ‘when you love what you do, you’ll never work another day in your life.’ It’s so much deeper than hair for me. I pride myself on building a connection and providing an experience for my clients. I specialize in natural hair and extensions. My desire is to make sure that every young lady and woman that sits in my chair feels good and love their hair by the end of their service. This is accomplished through excellent communication. Your appointment time is solely dedicated to you and providing superb customer service is my main goal.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
One thing that I love about being in the beauty industry is that it’s always changing. This encourages creatives like myself to continue to grow. With the way that things are moving now, the possibilities are endless.
