Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Spencer.
Shelby, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started taking photographs in high school as a hobby. I focused primarily on people and after shooting my first wedding, I realized that it was exactly what I was supposed to be doing. I currently attend Winthrop University where I study Fine Arts with a concentration in Commercial Photography. Whenever I am not in class, I am shooting weddings and other sessions, editing, or driving down endless backroads while I location scout.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not. My biggest struggle has been finding my style. There have been long periods where I have been unhappy with my work and it has caused me to become uninspired and complacent in my work. However, when I take a break and spend time with the things that inspire me most (people and nature) I can find my spark again and start creating. I am most content and at peace when I am inspired to create.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Shelby Spencer Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
You will hardly see me without a camera in my hand. I photograph everything! However, what Shelby Spencer Photography focuses on is weddings and engagements. I believe that photography is such a special gift. It is exciting to me to become a part of a couple’s love story and an honor to use my artistic abilities to tell it.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the energy of the city. Columbia is tiny in comparison and when I drive to Atlanta to shoot, it’s exciting to drive past the huge buildings and TONS of people. But y’all. Atlanta traffic is the WORST.
