Today we’d like to introduce you to Monica Fenderson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am originally from New York; and moved to Tuskegee, AL, where I received my Bachelor of Architecture in 1996. I returned to New York after graduating and I was waiting on a position with a large architecture firm in Manhattan to work on Trump Towers in Jersey Shores; this was during the Olympics.
While I patiently waited, my mom convinced me to move to Macon, GA and interview with a smaller more community friendly firm; which I did. I went to work for Richardson and Associates Architect Firm, intern architect; and Harmon Construction, construction manager. With it being my first professional positions in the architecture/construction field, I was thrilled to learn the business with such great mentors.
After pursuing my dreams in Macon, I moved on to Jacksonville, FL and took the next step in my career with Haskell Company. Intern Architect?
In __2000__, I returned to GA, specifically, the Atlanta area and began working for Turner Associates, Oscar Harris was the owner. We worked on major projects, such as Atlanta Public Schools, Atlanta City Courts, HOPE IV Projects and Urban Development.
I began to look at other options in Atlanta, and chose to move forward with Gwinnett County Government, as a building plan reviewer. While employed with GCG, I became a licensed Architect and created my own firm, MOSA design studios LLC in 2009, working in areas outside of Gwinnett County.
MOSA design studios LLC is an architectural firm in Grayson, GA; which provides complete architectural, code analysis, real estate planning and interior design services. Monica Fenderson, AIA, NCARB, LEED X GA is the founder/owner of MOSA; whereby our diverse portfolio of outstanding assembly spaces, offices, warehouses, restaurants, adaptive reuse, education, industrial, commercial and residential projects show the quality of work MOSA design has completed.
MOSA fully embraces the Integrative Design Team, and Integrative Design Process method of design and building which assures the most responsive, accurate and cost-effective process for each client.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Balancing family and marriage has been a challenge, but now working for myself, it has become more manageable. I have learned to network with other small business owners and developers, and many have assisted in the vitality and growth of my firm.

Absolutely! Being an Architect requires so many aspects of creativity, resiliency, patient, communication and being a great listener!
