Today we’d like to introduce you to Latoya Tomlinson.
Latoya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was in College, I started bartending. I used to go to the District and get clothing for all the bartenders. Customers would ask me where I got my clothing from. They started ordering from me. I needed to streamline the process so I started a website. I catered to women from 21-45 looking for evening wear, club wear, and date wear.
The website was going well. Then the market had become saturated, So I started to tap into my creative side by personalizing clothing, shoes, glassware, or anything I could get my hands on. My motto was I turned plain into couture. I incorporated that into my online business, I moved from NYC to Columbus Ohio, where I moved into a storefront and started customizing men and women clothing.
Things were going well, but I was not happy. So I moved to Atlanta. Our first order of business was to revamp the website to be able to compete with all the new online boutiques. Unfortunately, we lost a lot of the customization images, during the process. That was a setback, but we’re building back. Once that goal is met, we will begin the process of opening up a dual customizing shop and Women’s boutique. Customers will be able to design their own piece, bring in an old piece for us to revamp, customize one of our in-stock items, or have us design something for them.
I have always had a love for bartending. I have bartender at some of the biggest clubs in the country. I used my years and expertise in this field to expand my portfolio, at Bliss Bar & Lounge in Johns Creek where I have profit share, and employed as the Head Mixologist and Beverage Program Leader. I’m currently working night and day to realize my goals and dreams, building our online clothing brand, and laying down the groundwork to open Atlanta’s premier customizing boutique, in the near future.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth ride, moving from NYC to Ohio, then to Georgia, has set us back. But we feel like this is the right place for us to be at. The emergence of social media has made it very accessible for anyone to sell clothing thus the market is oversaturated. But we make great selections, provide great customer service, and focus on expanding our customization services so we can set ourselves apart from the others.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Prima Dons and Donnas – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are known for sexy attire for any occasion. Customers can find office to club wear with a sexy twist. We try to find pieces that others don’t have, and if it is a common item, customers can take advantage of our customizing service to put a twist on it… We get to use our creative side customizing items. We get to be free and artistic, along with a love and passion for fashion. We pride on carrying a large selection of jumpsuits in many styles and sizes. We also have custom jumpsuit section wear jumpsuits are tailored made.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best feature of Atlanta is the level of success for many cultures. I was born and raised in NY. For entrepreneurs to achieve high success in NY, more than likely, you have to have a larger income to survive. In Atlanta, it is more accessible to rise. Diversity of success for entrepreneurs in Atlanta are higher than any other city in my opinion and experience.
