Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Wilson.
Hi Christina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been acting since I was about 17 years old in high school. I starred in my very first one-act play called Where’s Delta, and from there, I knew that acting was what I wanted to do. I always knew that I loved being dramatic and that I could write, but I never considered acting and entertainment as a career until I looked out at the audience clapping for my performance. From there, I went to school for theater performance and began my career as an entertainer! I then decided that I was going to start my own production company, twelve Two Productions, where I would create films that promote Christ for entertainment.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Uhhhhh…. Smooth not so much! The path of a true artist in my opinion, is ever an easy rode. You have to deal with so much internally from comparison, criticism and feeling inadequate about your art. For me, when I first began my journey as an actor, I defat with a lot of comparisons and for a long time, I felt like I wasn’t good or talented enough to make it in the industry. I also dealt a lot with depression, depression that came from comparing my journey to others and feeling like I wasn’t moving fast enough or doing enough to make my dreams happen. It was only very recently that I began truly believing in my abilities. It’s imperative as an artists that you’re always sure to follow your path and be okay with where you are and not focus on the path of others. That can send you to a place of discontentment that no one wants to be. There are also the outside struggles of things like finding funding for your projects and wanting to be cast in things that you’re not getting. It definitely has not been the easiest road, but it’s been the path that has been most beneficial to who I am as an artist!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So I’m an actress. First, I absolutely love performing. When I’m up on a stage or infant of a character being someone, others feel emotions. Whether that’s happiness, sadness or whatever the case may be, it makes me feel more alive than I ever imagined I could. Okay, rant over. Aside from acting, I love writing and creating stories and I love directing projects, which is started my production company Twelve Two Productions. Through my company, I aspire to create films and produce films that merge Christ and Entertainment together. I know everyone says they want their films to “make a difference,” and a lot of people do, but I want to talk about some many different things, the hard things like rape and helping people break chains in their families through art.
I think that so far in my career, I’m most proud of the fact that so many people have told me that from working on my set to watching me perform that they have been set free or made new just by watching or being a part of a production of mine. I love that I have actually made a difference in people’s lives, even if it’s only a small scale, but I truly want it to be on a larger scale. And lastly, I think what sets me apart is the fact that despite what’s “in” or “popular,” I’m willing to tell my stories and create exactly what I want and believe needs to be told. I think when people look at my content, they’re looking for something that’s going to give them a change and I love that about my work.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
So many people deserve credit for helping me become the artist that I am today, but I will say that I had so many teachers, black teachers to be exact, speak life into me and my art as a whole. I can’t name each one name for name, but Simone Luke Forbes, she was my first theater teacher at Berkmar high school and she taught me just how great I am as an artist and was the first person who made me believe my talent could take me somewhere great.
