Today we’d like to introduce you to Parker Stiles.
Parker, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In short, consistency. Paired with enough blind motivation to push through all the challenges I faced on my path to reach my goals.
In a little more detail, after college, I got a job in Commercial Real Estate. I was an agent in the industrial sector, working with tenants and landlords. I enjoyed this job, but in the end, I was still “working for the man.” I worried about showing up late, and who might be looking over my shoulder. I was still forced to wear certain clothes to work, and stay in the office until the hour hand on the clock hit a certain number. It’s always been my goal to be my own boss, and make my own rules. But what was my plan to achieve this?
I knew that it would take me 2.5-3 years to build a 6 figure income in my current job, and being the impatient person I am, I decided I needed a supplemental short-term plan. About 4 months into this J.O.B, I stumbled across Real Estate Investing. I always had my eyes “open” for opportunities, but this really caught my eye. So I gave it a try and started taking steps to make this my short-term plan. About 3 months later, I ended up getting fired from my 9-5. Boss said, “You are too entrepreneurial & we don’t see you being here for the long term.” I was crushed. I told them it was a horrible decision, and that they were making a mistake. After a few hour pity party, I realized what I needed to do.
Right when I got home, I purchased a paid REI program by Matt Theriault, and never looked back. It was no “overnight success” and emotions definitely ran high at times, but all I went through the following 3 years after the day I got fired, was well worth the seat I sit in today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No road to success is smooth. Some less rocky than others, but none are smooth. I had the usual doubt, from family as well as friends. Luckily I was pretty immune to this. You just have to put on your blinders and do what needs to be done. I experienced big losses, getting taken advantage of, and months with no success or even a hint of it. All the same things you probably have heard before. I just chose to push through it and kept going. That’s the only difference.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would try and connect with more people on my rise up. Networking is so important, and I struggle with it, being a slight introvert. Other than that, nothing too specific. Just hustle hustle hustle as usual.
