Community Highlights: Meet Austin Ricks of Kreate Clothing Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Ricks.

Hi Austin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Austin Ricks, and I am the owner of Kreate Clothing Company LLC. Born and raised in Florence, Alabama. Fashion has been a consistent interest in my life for as long as I can remember. When I went to college to play basketball, my main focus was not fashion. Fashion was more like a hobby/pastime. It came relatively easy to match together different garments, colors, and sneakers. Upon graduating college, I began to look at what my talents/interests were, and I decided to start my own clothing brand. But I didn’t want to start just any clothing brand; I wanted my brand to inspire/motivate others to Kreate their dreams and aspirations. The brand encourages and places emphasis on taking a dream or idea and turning it into reality.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One challenge/lesson was really understanding and embracing the fact that it may take years to get to where I want my brand to be. Building a brand from scratch is a lot like building a house. Having a strong, solid foundation for your brand is essential. It looks glamorous when you see a brand really start to become nationally known and even globally known. However, before that happens, nobody sees the grind, the sacrifices, the losses. Looking back I would say that it has been a journey of ups and downs. My goal for each day is to lay a new brick and to continue building the foundation of Kreate.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Kreate we strive to provide urban clothing that places emphasis on inspiring and motivating individuals to Kreate their dreams and aspirations. What separates Kreate from other brands would be just the message that we’re trying to get across through fashion. That message is simple, we want everyone to Kreate their own path even if you have to start from scratch. We honor those who turn nothing into something.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the Entrepreneurial Energy in ATL. It’s a pleasure to see how the city embraces young talent. Whether it’s fashion, photography, art, music, real estate, etc. people really go out of their way to support each other and help each other grow.
