Today we’d like to introduce you to Daejha Baines.
Hi Daejha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am Daejha Baines, founder and owner of Wink A Mink, LLC. 25-year-old Lash Technician and Instructor based in Sandy Springs. I am a mother of a five-year-old daughter, a Colorado Tech graduate with a degree in Human Resource Management. I am originally from a small city in Alabama. I decided to move to Atlanta to grow my business and put my daughter in a better school system.
Growing up, I have always had a passion for impacting others spiritually. As I grew into an adult, I wanted to impact women physically with enhancing their beauty. I started back in 2018 doing hair and it became draining. As time went on, I decided to get into eyelash extensions. In July of 2020, I took a leap of faith and took a training course with one of the best lash instructors in Atlanta, Joydan Sparks (Founder of LashHouzz). In the training, I caught on instantly, which gave me confirmation that I was headed in the right direction. I practiced for weeks after getting certified, and a month later, I started accepting clients in my hometown, and from that day forward, it has been nothing but greatness. At first, it was some trial and error with retention and some of the products I was using. However, I didn’t give up! I kept pushing until I got it right. Now I’m able to share those mistakes and lessons with others.
I moved to Atlanta in May of 2021. At first, growing my clientele was a struggle, so I reached back out to Joydan and she gave some marketing tips and she also promoted my work herself which help me gain the clients I have now. Lashing has become my passion. I always tell my clients, I can literally lash from sun up to sundown. It’s so therapeutic to me.
I’ve grown into training and certifying my own students now. It is such a blessing and honor to be able to pass down my techniques and lessons to those who trust me in training them. After trainings, I check in with my students weekly for progress updates and give feedback. I hold them accountable and motivate them to keep going and not give up when it gets frustrating because it can. Lashing is very tedious so patience is vital. I love to see their progression in the process. I am only one year in the lash game and til this day, I don’t consider myself an expert. I am always opened to corrective criticism and feedback from my clients and more experienced techs. I’m literally learning new techniques and ways to create better sets everyday.
