Today we’d like to introduce you to Josh Evans.
Hi Josh, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Lansing, MI. I moved to the ATL area in 2013. I’m an artist best known for my music and visuals. Both my parents are huge influences in my life. My father’s side hustle was being a Dj so as a child, sometimes I would help him set up equipment and watch in amazement as he would entertain various crowds of all different ages and backgrounds. My deep love for music comes from him. My mom was a youth counselor and community activist. She was would read books daily and was a lover of movies, I feel like she always pushed me to use my imagination.
Shortly after I moved I found some success creating content for other artists and businesses like OJ the Juiceman, Makin it Mag, A3C Bangladesh, the U Bar, and MBK. My mother passed away in 2014 due to cancer, followed by a few of my close friends, including my Dj Young Ju, who was responsible for getting my music in the rotation back in Michigan and initially connected me with a lot of my network in ATL. Those losses impacted tremendously and I quickly spiraled out of control. I lost my sense of self, faith, and will. My wife and sister gave me support and helped me remember what my true purpose was and most importantly, I dug deep within myself and bounced back better than ever.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Creating a network in a completely different environment, trying to remain focused on what I’m truly passionate about, dealing with grieving, remaining positive.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I got the name Divinci because I’m skilled across many different creative mediums. I specialize in content creation and collaboration. For clients, I love to shoot events, especially concerts. For myself, I love starting from scratch and trying to make something out of it. Finding the pieces and artists to help a vision come to life is very exciting to me. I also don’t mind taking a reduced role in certain projects and just aiding others where I can. I direct, edit, create the treatments and perform all my music videos. What sets me apart is my versatility. For example, I was paid to shoot and edit a concert, at the same concert I also gave the crowd an amazing performance. That is pretty rare.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have extreme anxiety before I do anything. You might see me in action and think I have all the confidence but I’m really terrified.
