Meet Darrick and Bob Jesus Alvarez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darrick and Bob Jesus Alvarez.

Hi Darrick and Bob Jesus, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Bob Jesus: I’m Bob Jesus, and I play guitar and sing/yell at the microphone as well. Darrick is my younger brother and would turn out becoming the drummer for this ambition we named Deaf Condors. We began to improvise endless hours of riffs and eventually decided to turn them into songs back in 2018. We were supposed to record and release our debut EP in 2020, but just like many, all projects were postponed. Luckily, we were able to record and release our four song EP this past June through Super Carnival Recordings.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Darrick: Yes, there were some struggles for sure. One was just trying to figure out how to start, who to contact, who to record with, where to record, how to get booked. We were pretty lost in that sense.

The biggest obstacle, though was the pandemic, we had finally scheduled time to record our EP in late March, but everything had shut down due to pandemic before we could start recording. It wouldn’t be for another year that we could start planning the recording and release of our EP “Sundown Radio”.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bob Jesus: By night, I’m a rock-n-roll vigilante. By day, I make due. I’m proud of the fact that we seem to be creating a sound we can call our own. Releasing the EP was a test. Focusing on writing a full-length album is now the focus.

Darrick: I think what sets us apart is how personal we make our music. We don’t shy away from expressing our Peruvian Cultural or talking about our personal experiences as Latinos.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Bob Jesus: My advice to anyone starting out with playing music is to seek humility and find your own voice. Make sure you form a foundation that you can build from. I’ve been playing guitar for many years but still have so much to learn. Finding your own voice and sound is essential to the growth as an artist. I can only speak from personal experiences.
