Meet Honey Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Honey Smith.

Hi Honey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Starting this journey took place in high school. At first, I wanted to be a psychologist, but it just didn’t feel right. I loved to play in makeup and do hair. So once I finished high school, I applied to Aveda Institution on Peachtree St in Atlanta. When entering in school, I was excited because I wanted to do things the right way. Having a license and being legit was what I wanted. It was some hard days. I mean super hard. The school was from 8 am to 8 pm three days a week, and I worked a part-time job. It was times I wanted to give up, but I didn’t I went all in for a year straight until I graduated. I’ve been licensed for over ten years. I sit and just be like, WOW! From my home being my shop to now having a private suite, I made it happen.

Now, I am currently back in school for my cosmetology instructor license. Which is a year-long but I’m in my last quarter. Super excited to gain another notch under my cosmetology career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing is smooth, especially in this career! You deal with so many different types of people and personalities. You literally have to be a people person. Customer service is a top priority in this field! You even have bad days, but you still have to get up and grind it out. It has been plenty of times I gave up In this field or only did it part-time while working a job like a target. The struggles really are within yourself if you not a hustler or don’t have the mentality to do it, you won’t. You have to be strong and devoted! Nothing comes easy unless it’s some mess behind it. You’ll always get one person who loves what you do, and you also get those who try to take you down. But you just have to keep faith in everything you touch.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business is in the field of beauty. I run a hair salon, which is my private suite. I’ve been in business for over five years. My new location is in Decatur. I’ve been here for a little over two months now. I do almost everything make-up, mink lashes, natural hair care, extension, color, cuts.

I specialize in ponytails, natural hair care and quick weaves. My clients love my ponytails, silk presses and my bob quickweaves. I’m known for my ponytails for sure. I’m something like the ponytail slayer. What sets me apart from others is my priority to give my clients top-tier customer service and the desired look they came in for. Plus, I’m down to earth, silly, outgoing, and the best, hands down.

My proudest moment of my brand is rebranding myself this year. From new colors to my website (www.honeyroseroom.com), check it out. It’s dope. I worked with a dope blacked owned company by the name of NDO digital media. They made my vision come alive. My salon is full service offering everything from color to cuts. It’s also braiders at my location as well! We offer top-notch service at a fast but gentle pace.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
There are totally way to many! Lol, I really don’t even know where to start. I will say this my childhood was never not exciting! I am an only child, but I have tons of cousins, and with each one of them, I have the greatest memories.

From being 16, relaxing my boy cousin’s hair because he wanted it straight, then him screaming like a girl after feeling a little tingling. So many memories just make me smile.
