Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Christian.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Lindsey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Honestly, as long as I can remember, I always had a camera of some sort and took pictures of any and everything. Whether it was the disposable cameras I picked up at CVS, fun polaroid or my first ever digital camera (an Olympus), my childhood into my teens were full of photo taking memories. I still have boxes and boxes of old photographs at home that are always so much fun to look through and reminisce. They even make for great TBT’s on social media!
Fast forward to my very first DSLR camera I got for Christmas in 2012. I was so over the MOON excited to get started with my camera and kit lenses. I actually still remember the very first image I took with it. Well, soon after that, the excitement wore off. My busy life of teaching started back and my camera just collected dust. For 3 years to be exact.
And then came my son Hudson in June of 2015. I wanted to document every single minute, milestone, and move he made. Every new mom does, right? I dusted my camera off and started shooting. I instantly became a “momtographer”. I would flood my social media posts with countless pictures of my son, and people started to notice. I began to receive messages about people interested in booking photo sessions. What?!? Me?! Dreaming of becoming a professional photographer was never something I was dying to pursue. This all sort just sort of played out itself. After a few family sessions, I decided to give it my all and put myself out there as a new photographer. I haven’t looked back since!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think the challenges I have faced starting my own business have been within myself. Questions started racing through my mind such as “Am I really good enough?” “Will anyone actually reach out to me about wanting a photo session?” “What if it completely fails?” Having not even taken a course, the whole idea was very intimidating for me. Constantly comparing my work to other professional photographers that had been in the business 5 plus years just wasn’t fair to someone just starting out. I finally buckled down and took a photography class and I can’t tell you how much confidence that has given me in my work. Photography is a constant challenge in everyday situations, and that is one thing that won’t go away. However, that is what I love about photography. There is always room to improve, and room to challenge yourself to try different things within your business.
Lindsey Christian Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a lifestyle and natural light photographer specializing in children, family, newborn and couples. While I love specializing in those specific areas, I have photographed a few intimate weddings as well. I am known for the light + airy look in my images, which definitely reflects my bright + cheery personality. I also love the classic look of a few B + W images! Nothing makes me prouder than seeing the reaction from the clients as I post sneak peaks of their session. It just makes me even more excited to send them the full gallery! I LOVE to travel to my clients. Especially to my hometown of Saint Simons Island, where everywhere you go has a stunning backdrop for photo sessions.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Personally, for me, success isn’t defined by monetary income like it may be for some. Success, in my own words, is defined by clients reaching out to book sessions. Clients satisfied with their pictures. Clients referring me to family and friends as a photographer. Positive reviews written by clients. Recognition. All of these is defined by my personal success.
