Meet Robyn Thompson of Four Fat Cows

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robyn Thompson.

Hi Robyn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I opened my first restaurant about 15 years ago when I lived overseas in Scotland. I immediately fell in love with the industry and continued in it until 2015 when I opened the first Four Fat Cows in Alpharetta. I realized owning a restaurant, ice cream shop and being a single mom was a lot, something had to give! I sold the restaurant and focused on Four Fat Cows as I could still really embrace my creative side and it was way more fun than I could have imagined! In 2017, my oldest son decided to come on board once he graduated college. Luckily he was attending Goizueta at Emory and was close enough to help with the build out and set up of our second location in Athens while finishing his senior year. In 2018 he graduated and came on board full time. It was incredible having a partner that I got along with so well, trusted and had the same vision and goals I did. It gave a lot of strength to being able to grow the company!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I want to meet the person who says the road was smooth!!!! Not smooth at all!; This list could get long, but some highlights are; We have had everything from issues with contractors, which resulted in us opening our third and fourth stores at the same time. My son and I have a great relationship but still had to learn how to work as business partners. Employee challenges. And, my personal favorite was opening our newest store in middle of Covid.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Four Fat Cows?
At Four Fat Cows we pride ourselves on our quality, customer service, as well as our unique stores and offerings.

We really love the communities we are in and try to become as involved as possible with our food truck, school fundraisers and catering to support and bring them goodies to any party or event they have.

Ice cream is our thing, and we take it very seriously by using high butterfat content, amazing ingredients and creating not only classic but also very unique flavors.

We have also started getting a lot of attention for our baked goods. We currently offer cupcakes, puffle cones, waffle cones, cookies, brownies, key lime pies, cakes and ice cream cakes, but are adding new items in the coming weeks. The thing that makes people gravitate towards our baked goods is that they are all gluten-free, but you can’t tell a difference because of the care we take, the ingredients we use, and our commitment to quality and taste!

We round out our guest’s experience with a super friendly team, stores that are different at each location, and fun gifts and toys that are truly unique.

We feel like our friendly team that truly cares and takes a genuine interest in helping guests find their perfect treats really sets us apart. Especially when it comes to guests that have allergies and need help with dairy free, gluten free, nut and egg free items as well!

What matters most to you?
I want guests to have a truly wonderful experience in our stores. Whether they are coming in for ice cream, bakery, coffee or gifts, I want them to find things they can’t get anywhere else! I constantly come up with new flavor ideas to keep things fresh and fun. No matter what our customers choose, I want them to know that the quality of ingredients and the care that goes into their treats matters above all else to me.
