Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennis Crump Jr.
Hi Dennis, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I currently operate 3C Sports Training, we specialize in providing track and field speed training from youth to professional athletes. The company name is inspired by my three daughters Dakota, Kameron, and Alyssa. The 3C Sports brand started in 2009 as 3C Sports officials, we provided professional referee services for sports leagues in the metro Atlanta area. That lead to 3C Sports and Adventures started in 2013 in the middle east, Abu Dhabi.
I moved abroad to Abu Dhabi, UAE and formulated the first American-based adult sports leagues in the United Arab Emirates. The main sport that grew popular in the country was adult American kickball, along with a host of other sports. The brand is currently relevant and operating in the Abu Dhabi region and recognized as the the fasting growing expat business in the United Arab Emirates.
Upon returning to the United States, 3C Sports Training was established to provide fundamental and technique-based training to the youth track and field world. My oldest daughter Dakota inspired me to start the training company as she decided to run track in middle school. My sports background includes 100-meter dash state champion and runner-up for the state of Illinois, including receiving a football and track scholarship to college. My youngest daughter Alyssa(14) is a 3x AAU national region champion for the state of Georgia and South Carolina region in the 100M dash and a 4x AAU Junior Olympian in the 100 and 200-meter dash. 3C Sports Training currently trains over 165 athletes on a yearly bases.
My experience also includes currently, the Head Track and Field coach at Atlanta International School, Buckhead and sprint coach for Track Georgia Youth Track Club, Atlanta, GA.
I grew up on the south side of Chicago to the parents of Dennis and Carolyn Crump. My parents raised four boys, Dennis, Shaun, Darius, and Johnathan. In 1996 at the age of 16, my brother Shaun was murdered and a victim of the tough Chicago street violence. I put that pain of losing my brother into being the most successful person I could be and used sports as the avenue for my success and get me out of Chicago.
Sports has been my saving grace and a very important avenue to my life. My passion behind 3C Sports training is providing athletes an avenue to remain busy, active, productive and develop boys into men and girls into women via sports and recreation.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, it’s been a very smooth road with very little bumps. The company being named after my three daughters keeps me laser-focused and ensures I follow the business model. I only accept athletes that are coachable, focused, follow the training plan for their specific goal, and committed 100% to the process.
My current challenge is a tough hill to climb while operating the business. On August 16, 2021, my oldest daughter Dakota was killed in a horrible domestic violence incident. As I complete this interview, it’s only been 36 days from her devastating death. I have anger and extreme heartbreak currently and struggle on dealing with moving on. After weeks of heartache and pain, I decided to stop crying, get out the bed, and redirect my pain back to my passion of training athletes.
Dakota did not receive the opportunity to finish her track career. I decided to dedicate this year of coaching, training and track season to her memory. Any athlete that comes across my path will receive my normal training techniques but an added passion as if I was training to prepare Dakota for her college season that she begin planning just weeks before her untimely death.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
