Daily Inspiration: Meet Ali Roc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ali Roc.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well… I came here for a job and never left. I worked as an on air personality for a cluster of stations in Macon and Las Vegas but always worked in PR and Marketing in each place, and it stuck. Now, as the CMO for the Georgia Entertainment Association, I get to combine all the knowledge and info I have from broadcasting and entertainment and use it for good.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth is not the word I would use, broadcasting/entertainment in general is a great space to work in because of concert tickets, but as you move up in markets, things get a little less friendly, it’s a male dominated space and work doesn’t always come as often. I’ve had many jobs (like a lot) and there have been times when I didn’t know where the next paycheck was coming from, let alone the next meal, I’ve couched surfed and moved around, but because I’m good at what I do, it hasn’t all been a struggle.

I’ve been the hype woman and moved the crowd, traveled and interviewed some of my favorite artists, I worked hard and gained a set of skills that made my transition into a new role easier. I’m one of the few people on earth that can say that I love what I do.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Right now, I’m leaning into being a multifaceted professional. I’m currently a podcast host, plus model, a writer, business owner and soon, I will be opening a storefront. As the Chief Marketing Officer of the Georgia Entertainment Association, I’m proud of the work we are doing to expand our student and artists programs, and for once have accepted that it’s ok to be good at more than one thing and manage it all.

Often we are told that you have to master one thing, but you can be a Jill of all trades. Some people thrive by moving in multiple spaces. You have to have a great support system to do multiple things and mine is amazing, my friends and family have made this transition possible and easy.

Being multifaceted provides opportunity to be a connector, and that’s important work.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my best childhood memories was sitting in the room with my grandfather watching Westerns, he loved those movies and could quote them word for word. I had no idea what we were watching, but he seemed amused by them and it was how we spent time together and a safe place. Also, Clint Eastwood was mad young.
