Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Danielle Harris.
Hi Jordan Danielle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started writing songs when I was seventeen, and fell in love with it almost instantly. Before that, I grew up performing in local musicals and plays in high school. I always loved to sing as a child and I really found my voice on stage when I was performing. As a kid, I always dreamed of playing different characters on Broadway, but I grew up and began writing my own story instead.
Songwriting ended up being a really therapeutic thing for me. It was also tricky at first, learning how to be so vulnerable in my lyrics. This was new territory for me. I remember I used to get so scared before showing someone a song I had written. However, I feel like it gave me an outlet to truly express myself and tell my story, so I’ve tried to use this gift as a way to inspire people to find their own voice and share their story as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had a lot of ups and downs maneuvering the ins and outs of the music industry as a young woman. There are many pressures placed on artists, especially young girls. It is somewhat difficult finding people you can lean on and trust, in this business. I’ve definitely struggled along the way and felt like giving up a few times, but I’ve always known deep down in my heart that music has been such a gift in my life and I don’t ever see myself losing that, or giving up on it. I’ll always make music and write songs, even if it’s just for myself in my bedroom. It’s not just what I do, it’s who I am. No one can take that away from me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love to make music with a powerful message behind it. I usually write love songs because they come so natural to me, I’ve always been a hopeless romantic. However, I am really wanting to push my songwriting even more and bring listeners on a journey with me. I love writing Pop songs that sound fun and upbeat at first, but have a different twist to them, lyrically. Something that makes you want to listen again and catch something that maybe you didn’t hear before. I always write from personal experiences too, so anytime you hear a song from me, just know it’s actually happened in real life usually.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My favorite thing about Atlanta is the people, the culture, and most importantly, the memories I have from growing up here. My grandfather has a lot of history in this city and I love to listen to his old stories about Atlanta, from the past. What it was like during the Civil Rights Movement, what it was like growing up here in the 50’s and 60’s. I try to imagine what the city looked like back then. I am moved by all the history this city holds. However, my least favorite thing about Atlanta is the potholes and the insane traffic!
