Hidden Gems: Meet Tamika Crawford of TCHairChronicles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Crawford.

Hi Tamika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up watching my mom do hair and that’s where my interest started. Growing up, it was kind of second nature for the girls in the neighborhood to know how to do hair. It was mostly braiding back then but everyone knew how. I started doing hair for people in College. I would do my own hair, my friend’s and peer’s hair. After leaving undergrad due to unforeseen events. I enrolled myself into hair school! I moved home after finishing hair school and would do hair out of my living room until my parents couldn’t take anymore and shortly after, I was working out of a Salon. I worked there for 2.5 years and built a name for myself and the rest is history!!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is there even such thing called smooth road when going after what you want? I faced many struggles on my journey but looking back, I didn’t realize I struggled until after I overcame them. I definitely struggled during hair school. My parents still thought I was attending undergrad so I was very much alone because I had to hide what my life truly was. I was alone in every aspect. I couldn’t pay my bills and couldn’t turn to no one for help.

We’ve been impressed with TCHairChronicles, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I found TCHairChronicles in 2012 and have not looked elsewhere since. TCHC is continuously growing from hairdos, networking events to product lines. I specialize in natural hair care. I am most known for caring for black girls hair and giving their tresses the TLC it needs. What sets me apart from others is that I STILL love what I do. A lot of people in the hair industry is fueled by money and not passion. Talent is needed but passion is what sets you apart. I have so much that I am proud of because I’ve come so far on my journey. The two things I am most proud of are my networking event Strange Fruit and my nourishing hair oil. I want the people to know that TCHairChronicles is just getting started. I am always thinking of ways to better my brand and my services. Currently, I offer services such as Silk Presses and Sew Ins to name a few. My hair oil is available for purchase and I am starting my own youtube channel. There is so much in store and I can’t wait for you all to see.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
One book that really helped me along the way is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I really love that book and really taught me to trust what God has ordained for my life.
