Life & Work with Brandi Boyd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Boyd.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started Salacious by B. Nicole because I’ve always been intrigued by lingerie and how powerful it can make a woman feel. Growing up watching the Victoria’s Secret fashion show yearly and seeing how amazing and fearless the ladies looked, made me want to be apart of that. I decided in 2016 that I wanted my own lingerie line. I grew up in a heavily music influenced family, and my love for music and the vibe it creates for me made me want to name my pieces after songs.

By naming my pieces after songs, I believe it helps set the mood for women that may not know where to start. Salacious is not only about enjoying time with your spouse, but also I want women to wear it while cooking or cleaning. Looking at yourself in the mirror and feeling good about yourself as much as possible. Also, my collections are made to be seen outside of the house as well. I really want women to incorporate lingerie into their daily wardrobe, something as simple as a Teddy (one piece) with jeans and a blazer or thigh highs with a dress. Just knowing you’re pushing your limits will make you feel good about yourself, or at least I do.

It took a lot of money (haha), time and consideration, but today Salacious is a thriving upcoming African American owned business. We are ready to take the world by storm and collaborate with the very musicians that make up the names of pieces. I want to share my form of self care with the world and her name is Salacious by B. Nicole.

Slogan: It’s a lifestyle honey, not just a moment.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, because I find myself being inconsistent or discouraged because sales are low. Also creating awareness has been a challenge. Instagram/Facebook blocked me from in-app promotions for months. I went through months of appeals and trying to be approved for Instagram shopping. My products are no different from the likes of Savage Fenty or Agent Provocateur but now I’m approved, after tons of appeals.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I hold a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication, which is one of my most proudest accomplishments. I work remotely for The Walt Disney Company as a Traffic Coordinator. Although, I enjoy being an entrepreneur, I always wanted to work for a major company and Disney is like a dream come true.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck, but God has shown be so much favor and blessed me through every obstacle. Every shortcoming brings a major blessing, so I take my rainy days with a grain of salt and my faith prevails. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel for me.
