Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Johnson.
Hi Darius, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Art and Content Creation have always been a passion of mine. I was always interested in things like Video Games and Art. I grew up playing sports but most of my free time was spent learning and playing games. Eventually in High School, I realized that I wasn’t very interested in a lot to do for a job.
That is when I made the decision to go to the Art Institute. After college, I spent some time freelancing and now spend my time making content for websites like Twitch and Youtube. I love the process of content creation as it allows me to still be creative and also interact with people from all walks of life who love gaming.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is never a smooth road all the way through. I would say trying to find my footing in the industry I would say would be my biggest struggle.
Everyone tells you that life should be as simple as going to college and getting a job right after but life never happens the way we plan it. Being a black man in the gaming space definitely a huge thing in finding work, proving you belong in the rooms you are in. But through it all, I never gave up and have arrived to the place I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I started out as a 3D Freelance Artist but now consider myself a content creator and live streamer for the gaming space. Websites like Youtube and Twitch have blown up during the Pandemic and brought more eyes to the space. I would say I am most proud of the content I make nowadays as it’s a good way for people to decompress and forget about their hard days. I try to always keep a smile on the people’s faces who watch me stream because I think we all deserve to smile. I still make art from time to time but that is a different sort of passion for me.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think the most surprising thing about work for me is actually explaining what live streaming actually is. For as many people that know about it there are many more who do not. I think that would be one of the most exciting things for me is opening the eyes of people who may think that gaming is just a waste of time.
