Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade “theartistjade” Meyers.
Hi Jade, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a kid, I would draw, sing, run track and do a ton of ‘creative things’ my parents took notice and supported me from there. I was tested for a program in Elementary School called “TAV” (Talented in Visual Arts). The rest is history. Even though I am a self-taught Artist, I’ve studied Art from Elementary School throughout College. After graduating from Southern University and A&M, I started my art-based company ‘JADE 1991’. I’ve worked with major brands such as: ESSENCE, BET, NBA, and Adult Swim to name a few. I recently released my first EP “OUTSIDE PLAYIN” courtesy of BPG -The Blue Print Group Distro. I haven’t looked back since.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. The road wasn’t smooth. I don’t broadcast the struggles because they’ve helped to prove the odds wrong. However, one major struggle was fighting to be respected as an artist. Especially as a Black multi-talented Female Artist. I’ve been told I wouldn’t make it far because artists don’t make money or it’s not a “real career” but I’ve proven otherwise.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an Artist who specializes in Visual Art, Art Direction, Singing & Songwriting. I am most proud of conquering my fears by stepping fully into my power as an Artist and a Black Woman. What sets me apart is that I am innovative and I always stand outside of the crowd.
How do you think about luck?
GOD! God has never failed me. Some people call it luck. I’d like to call it alignment. Whether I’m conquering or failing in life and business I’ve learned to use both things as lessons to be and do better than the day before.
