Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyunna Baker.
Hi Keyunna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a Black Woman-owned, Portland OR based lifestyle brand – Shoebox by Ki Boutique.
I curate a variety of looks for all occasions and welcome everyone.
I started my business approximately three years ago – shortly after being hired as a personal stylist by a co-worker who was in need of a wardrobe refresh.
My co-worker struggled with defining her style and overall look. I was able to assist her with putting pieces together that made her look and feel her best without compromising her modesty.
Her newfound confidence touched me. This made me realize that styling was my ministry and my happy place.
I love helping those who struggle with shopping and creating looks that complement their way of life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have encountered obstacles and setbacks with scaling my business, but it has never deterred me from my goals.
Being an entrepreneur is a beautiful and unique experience in itself. It is challenging, it is freedom, it is fun, it is liberating and somewhat intimidating.
There are days when I feel as though I have it all figured out and then there are days where I am literally questioning everything.
However, those bumps in the road are all a part of the journey and is what makes it exciting.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Shoebox by Ki Boutique provides a unique shopping experience. We are a mobile, online and pop-up boutique.
We offer our customers a curated selection of looks for all occasions. We welcome everyone.
We are most known for our rotating selection of dresses and jumpsuits.
We offer personalized shopping experiences. Our Portland OR & Vancouver WA customers can book one on one shopping experiences via our website www.shoeboxbyki.com.
The shopping experience allows customers to shop in the comfort of their homes and receive personalized assistance with putting looks together.
We are most proud of the exposure and growth that we have been experiencing over the last year.
We won a grant through Comcast which provided us with our own television commercial that aired locally.
We also attended our first major pop-up event here in Portland. This event put us in front of thousands of people. We met new customers and made a lot of new friends in the small business community.
We pride ourselves on making sure that our customers look and feel their best. We offer top-tier customer service and quality clothing at affordable prices. We are not fast fashion, but fashion that lasts.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am a big fan of self-help books and self-care. I am currently reading The Mountain is You by Brianna Wiest. I love anything that challenges me to be my best self.
