Today we’d like to introduce you to Akenah Walker.
Akenah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I started my business in March 2019, I had a big inspiration which was my late great grandmother, Mary Alice Searcy. Before her unfortunate departure, she used to create various types of cakes, but she was famously known for her caramel cake. She inspired me to bake cakes, which led to the expansion of establishing a business where I could create cakes and other divine sweets. From personalizing small orders to now serving customized treats at large events such as birthday celebrations, baby showers, and pop up shops, I am expanding my brand, growing my clientele, and creating connections and customized sweets that are both genuine and unique.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course, nothing great will always come easy. I have had obstacles such as learning and perfecting baking techniques, trial and error on customized designs, miscalculating measures for certain recipes, and creating my own style, flavor, and brand. As simple as it sounds, there was a lot of struggles and difficulties that I had to overcome in order to have the confidence and success that I have today.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Stormy Sweet Creations intend to serve lovers of sweets and treats, event planners, party throwers and worldwide customers who enjoy decorative, delicious desserts. Stormy Sweet Creations is one of a kind with a unique name like itself. My business is extraordinary because it is where custom treats are created and where we provide one-stop-shop services. A customer can purchase their sweets for an event and can also experience personalized services such as decoration labels, treat tables, and customized backdrops. Although it was not easy, I am where I am today because of countless amounts of networking, endless promoting and dedication from my loyal supporters. The lesson I have learned along the way is that everything new is a trial and error experience, and you have to be willing to find what works best for you. Be open to learn new approaches and add your own spice to things to make your business different from others, whether it’s experimenting with new recipes or creating a new type of design for your product. I want the world to know that my treats are 100% homemade and I am a firm believer in providing excellent customer service. I am a product of my community and I tend to continue to create sweets for my community and beyond. #BlackOwned
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I envision my business expanding further than my home kitchen. I would like to own a dessert shop in my hometown, Atlanta, Ga. This would be a One Stop Shop for everybody to taste Stormy Sweet Creations Homemade Treats. I also envision providing classes on how to make delicious treats. Once those goals are met, I will soon be open to expanding my business across the nation.
