Meet Buckhead & Lawrenceville Hairdresser and Session Stylist: Angela Moceri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Moceri.

Angela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started creating hairstyles at a very young age on myself being in dance class I needed to have my hair up. So I began experimenting with different braids and updo styles. People began to comment on the pretty styles I would do and asked if I could style their hair. I started giving makeovers to family and friends. After I would finish their new look I’d hand them over the mirror and their response was “I feel so beautiful” and “this style is very unique I just love what you have done with my hair.” Having that response lead me in the direction to become a hairdresser.

I was 16 years old and enrolled into Beauty School while going to high school. The first school I went to I began learning all the classic styles from the twenties all the way up into the 60s this is always been my favorite era of hairdressing. That Hollywood glam style, vintage iconic looks that remain classic, but change with time to Modern forms. From this point, my thirst for Education begin. I transferred to Brighton Institute of Cosmetology to get a higher education in all aspects of hair, cutting, styling and chemical service along with skin and nails. I graduated with a Master Cosmetology license before completing high school. My thirst has been fueled by many advanced educational courses I began working Behind the Chair developing a clientele and achieving business skills as a private contractor.

From that point on I went to a hair show and fell in love with Toni & Guy European hairstyling and the makers of bed head products. It became clear to me my next goal was to work with this company. I moved to Georgia and got the job with Toni & Guy and specialized in hair cutting/styling department. My training and skills were done with Advanced Salon program classes. Where I learn the latest collections on styling and personalizing cuts for the individual needs. Demonstrating cutting and finishing techniques on models, and going over the proper terminology and training skills as well as the product used to create these looks. After reaching my goals I took the next step in furthering my dreams of owning my own company. I became a freelance artist working on my portfolio and advancing my skills as a hairdresser and session stylist. I started AM Style by Design a company focused on pulling together a deeper working knowledge of the hair industry inspired by my thoughts of Beauty and Fashion through creative artistry. Working backstage at fashion shows and on sets of photo shoots movie sets and the bridal industry. As well as directing hair styling in my studio I work full throttle toward creating a brand in loyal following in this ever-changing beauty industry. I’ve had the opportunities to work with Sam Mcknight World leading session stylist out of 17,000 entries I was picked and began 16-week Advanced program in Runway, editorial, campaigns, fashion, portfolios, and branding with briefs and opportunities from industry leaders. Graduated with Masters in session styling.

Has it been a smooth road?
Strive to make a name for myself in the hair industry and build a clientele with taking the proper educational class while working. Not only to maintain but gain continue growth in the industry with a unique quality style, because every individual is different and that being stated I take the time to personalize my clients needs. Success factors growth comes from learning and developing new ideas.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?

Up in coming hair trends multiple creations, from braids to natural locks, to knots, and ponytails. Youthful elegant Looks from the 20, 50’s 70’s, 80’s, and 90s. Plaint forms braids. 20’s slicked finger waves. 50’s rock – n- roll French rebellious look. 70’s sleek straight long hair. 80’s ultra- voluminous hair big texture crimping. 90’s knots, twist updos, ponytails, pigtails. The changes were seeing is the iconic looks are making a comeback in the next few years. Clients are not walking out with just a blowout anymore they are wanting to leave with a trendy style like a boxer braid, or crown braid or voluminous waves. The catwalk is just not during fashion week its styles that I’m getting to apply on client’s everyday because I keep up with the trends. Being able to Create custom hairstyles that suit client’s features, lifestyle, and fashion taste. It is a beautiful thing when a career and passion come together.

Haircuts:
Lobs, Wobs, a textured, lived-in look Long layer texture Jagged, short, or Bettie Page fringe creative looks along with undercuts on every length of hair. Long and straight. Mid-length with bold fringe. Bangs are back.

Men’s cuts
Pairing a long flow top with a low fade taper makes you look a lot less 90’s and a lot more 2016. This hairstyle does feature a long top and short sides but that doesn’t make it an undercut, as classic undercuts have a shorter top and a higher fade/shaved side.

What would you say has been the biggest challenge for you over the course of your career?
Being an independent business owner required a lot of work maintaining gaining knowledge in the industry. Being a hairdresser behind the chair I book all my appointments, keep up with my social media of what I’ve been creating inside the salon and what’s trending as well as what’s in season. I believe in trying to build my expertise in fashion, art, and beauty with the unlimited, endless possibility of hairdressing.

What would you tell someone who is just starting out?
Have a clear vision of what you want and set goals. One of my favorite quotes is “ Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, how you leave others feeling after an experience with you becomes your trademark.” Jay Danzie
