Today we’d like to introduce you to Keelah Jackson.
Hi Keelah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My husband and I opened up our former space, Keeody Gallery, to share a place for creatives to be seen and heard no matter the specialty or discipline. We opened Keeody Gallery in the fall of 2019, and we actually gained a following in the summer of 2020 when we began to receive attention for being open to all creatives.
We then launched a livestream/art exhibit concert series in the fall of 2020 called BLACK WOMAN MAGIC SHOW. From then until now, Keeody Gallery has been a place where art, love and soul reside. In all ways, our mission has extended itself through the exhibits we have curated, the events we have hosted and the art we have created. Our new generation of the Keeody brand is forming as I type. The gallery brand is now transitioning into a new venture called artLOVEsoul where we will be totally focused on vocal content creation (ie… podcasts, singing/songwriting, spoken word, storytelling/history preservation).
We had an exhibit space in our former location, and now we have a chance to refine the image with this concentrated studio of preserving and celebrating the art of the voice. Our new address is 1673 S Holtzclaw Ave, TN 37404, and we will have a grand opening on October 25, in conjunction with a curated art crawl aligning with the Southeastern Museums Conference (SEMC). The studio’s featured exhibit will be THE DIVINE ROYALTY COLLECTION, running in duration through November 30, 2021.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a bumpy road of trying to gain financial support for our establishment because we were a grassroots start-up; as the community and fellow art organizations have observed that we were committed to our own vision (despite support or backing), then the support came. I think that people had to see that we were (and still are) willing to invest in ourselves and our vision of making the world a better place by all means necessary!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a multifaceted creative. I am certified and documented as an expert in over five areas of artistry/gifting. This expertise inspired me to brand myself as “The Mastercreative” in 2017 because I am an award-winning educator, singer/songwriter, visual artist, writer, actress, model, voice talent, workshop facilitator and motivational speaker, and I have been practicing my crafts for well over thirty years. I am super proud of this fact because I have spent most of my life trying to hide the reality that I am highly-skilled in all of these areas of artistry!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I lived in Atlanta for close to ten years, and I LOVE THE DIVERSITY OF ATL!!! I simply love the fact that I can find pretty much any and everything of interest within the city or immediate surrounding areas. I least like the traffic. It’s ridiculous!
