Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer McCray.
Hi Jennifer, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I started out working for L.V. Style Couture Magazine in Las Vegas in Advertising. Often required to organize editorial photo shoots. From the Magazine, next I was asked to be a personal stylist and gladly accepted. After working with a few clients here and there, figured a boutique would be a perfect solution in-between clients. I fell in love with my clients and creating the brand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No. Not at all smooth. My personal life had completely fallen apart and then I found out I was pregnant. The owner of the magazine decided she wanted to move on so my new found career was short lived. I moved back home to Detroit to escape a toxic relationship. But, my child and my family help keep me grounded. I went back to school kept my head in my books and worked hard towards my dream.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about J McCray Style?
J. McCray Style was about me finding myself. And also discovering I’m not much different from any other woman. Sometimes, I feel powerful and savvy and want to wear a power suit. Other days I feel like a Rock Star or Sexy and want to embrace my femininity. No one can label a woman or put her in a box. Or emotion is apart of our power. I say wear it proudly! Address how you feel. Decide How you want to feel. Shop the Budget. Dress the Goal.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Fabrics are being made of more environmentally conscious materials. Recycled garments and cottons. Vegan Leather and more. I believe this trend will grow. More younger shoppers are buying with their conscious in mind.
