Meet Samuel Clavell of LifeGiving Chiropractic in Austell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samuel Clavell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Samuel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m originally from Puerto Rico, born and raised. Lived there till I was 22 years old when I got married to my beautiful wife and decided to move out to Georgia to become a Chiropractic Doctor. I graduated from Chiropractic School in 2010 with a lot of knowledge and an expertise in Chiropractic, but had no idea what about running a business.

I worked for another Chiropractor for a year, barely making any money and doing a lot of the hours that no one liked to do, but I decided to put my head down, work and learn as much as I could.

An opportunity presented itself for me to open an office through a Chiropractic Franchise Company. It’s crazy but I gave my employer at the time a 1 week notice to leave, but I couldn’t pass this opportunity to finally own my own practice.

I learned a lot through mistakes, failing, and innovating. I remember I came from a practice where we would be seeing 100+ patients a day….and on my first day at second day in my new office I saw no one, zero, nada!

I was distraught. I remember I cried on my front desk. “Maybe I’ve made a mistake”

At that moment alone, I forced myself to evaluate the situation and understand, “What’s the alternative? I can #LoveTheWork or I can sit here, sulk, and feel sorry for myself”

That’s when I came up with my #LoveTheWork mantra! It’s how I live my life……I #LoveTheWork cause….what’s the alternative?

It’s been almost 7 years since that moment!

I was able to build the most successful practice in that franchise I was a part of, won multiple awards, built an incredibly successful and fun practice. I’ve been able to help and train doctors open well over 25 different practices, some within the franchise I was a part of and some outside the franchise. I’ve been blessed to consult and open 2 more practices that are incredibly successful. (Dunwoody, GA and Murfreesboro, TN).

More importantly, I’ve been able to build a practice I’m proud of. I love going to see my patients every week! I love working with my staff! I love the work!

I then made a decision to leave the franchise I was a part of and create my own Chiropractic Business. Not an easy decision at all….but one I had to make. I knew I never wanted to look back in my late 90’s and have any regrets. And I knew that if I didn’t take the leap to go on my own, I would’ve regretted that.

So one of the hardest decisions was made. I stepped outside my comfort zone…and things have been amazing ever since!

While opening my two other practices, I found a new passion in me. I loved helping other entrepreneurs start from scratch and build their own thing.

So I’ve set out to the same within my business, LifeGiving Chiropractic.

We currently have 2 locations, Atlanta, GA and San Jose, CA. I’ve also teamed up with two incredible partners and we are expanding!

I learned to #LoveTheWork……..and Loving The Work has been great for me!

Excited for the future!!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Lol. Not Smooth at all!

I opened my first practice in one of the lowest income areas in the state of Georgia. I was in a “shopping complex” that was 75% vacant. So no traffic was going into our building. And I’m part of a profession that most see as a luxury instead of a part of their daily life.

I set out to never use any excuse. So I just worked! And hustled! And Grew!

I’ve had many failures. I had to learn how to lead a team. This is embarrassing for me, but I will share….I’ve had 11 different “Chiropractic Assistants/Secretaries” in my office…..for the first 3 years I couldn’t keep someone for more than 1 year. I had to learn how to lead. How to inspire. How to get my staff to care about my business.

Once I learned how to do that the business exploded!

While building my practice, I didn’t pay myself for 13 months!

I couldn’t.

All of my money went straight back into the business.I paid my bills…and invested back. I’m blessed enough to have a wife that worked and was able to feed me. lol….but for 13 months….no pay checks for myself whatsoever. That was tough and embarrassing!

I also remember one time while expanding and opening my second office, the buildout and process to open became extremely delayed. We had to start paying a lot of bills before our business had even opened,(rent, investor payments, etc.)…..me and my wife just had to pay that stuff from our personal money. That was a tough tough moment in our life. For a couple of months all of my paychecks went to pay for a business that wasn’t even open.

We became so much stronger after that!

I’ve learned, that if you want to level up. You have to go through struggle. Diamonds are made when force is applied. So do big time entrepreneurs! I know I want to continue to level up…so the challenges will continue to arise….and we’ll continue to push through!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the LifeGiving Chiropractic story. Tell us more about the business.
LifeGiving Chiropractic is my new business! We serve two roles.

1) LifeGiving Chiropractic serves the community. We help our patients not just be free of pain, medications, surgeries…..we help them get their lives back again!
99% of the patients that walk through our doors have some type of ailment. Most of the time we are the last resort, they’ve tried everything.

We take a different approach, instead of focusing on the symptoms. We go to the root of the problem.

What’s ACTUALLY causing the problem…and we address that!

For the last 6 years we’ve been able to help people with migraines, neck pain, lower back pain….but even cooler it’s when we have been able to free people from medications.

High Blood pressure, ADD, Anxiety, Diabetes, Neuropathy, Sleep Apnea, Infertility, Hypo/Hyper Thyroidism, Depression, scoliosis, etc…..have all become an afterthought in our patients when they address “the cause” instead of the symptom.

Even cooler is what our patients are able to do after…..we continue to hear testimonies how patients marriages are saved thanks to our Chiropractic care, how parents become better parents, how husband and wife go back to act like they did when they were younger, how grandparents are able to play with their grandkids with no limitations, how kids do better in school, they focus, they’re faster, stronger athletes.

And that’s why we are different! We don’t just help you get out of pain or medications….we help you get back to doing the things you love to do!

Here’s our mission statement:

“Our Goal is Simple: To Invigorate Your Life Again. Fully!”

2) Our Second Role

I’ve partnered up with two other amazing business people, Dr. Josh Ben and Joy Grindeland, and created a business where we will be helping other Chiropractic Entrepreneurs open their own Chiropractic office and build the practice they’ve always dreamed of.

I’ve had experience opening three practices very hands on, and helped/consulted with over 35 practices that are doing extremely well around the nation.

We specialize in teaching doctors the systems, the leadership skills and more importantly the mindset they need to have to embark on the entrepreneurial journey! We’re tough with our training, yet we build ‘Chiropractic LifeGivers!’ Chiropractors that are on a mission to be a vital part of their communities.

I also run two podcasts! One is called #LoveTheWork podcast where I interview entrepreneurs. We get to talk about what makes them continue to push forward even through the struggle and challenges, what makes them love the work so much!

The other podcast is called “The LifeGiving Podcast”. This one is more for our patients and people that are looking to get healthier. I get to interview other Chiropractors, health care providers, yoga instructors, dietitians, etc. We talk everything Health!

One of the things I’m most proud of is our social aspect. We have created the “LifeGiving Project” where every LifeGiving Chiropractic office has teamed up with 4 local charities. Any patient in our office who’s been a patient for over a year makes our “LifeGiver” status, where 10% of everything they pay in our office gets donated to the charity of their choice!

We’ve seen that when people are healthy…..they like to give more. Specially those in need! So we’ve allowed them an opportunity to donate with their finances and their time and volunteer through LifeGiving Chiropractic.

I’m Extremely Proud of this Project!

What makes us different? We Care. Simple. I’m ALWAYS willing to give more than I receive. Always.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m an extremely Lucky Guy!

I was born in Puerto Rico, a US Territory in an extremely capitalistic system. I have two incredible parents that instilled big time confidence in me. They gave me incredible opportunities and experiences that have made me who I am. My dad, being an entrepreneur himself gave me an example to follow.

I’m lucky I was able to marry a woman that loves me and supports me more than I deserve.

Yes, I’m Lucky …and Luck has played a huge role in my life and my business!

But I won’t attribute all of my success to luck. It’s actually a culmination of many things.

Like a fine wine, being successful comes from a mix of things; a blend of luck, confidence and big time hustle.

I’ve been lucky to have this opportunity to create the life I want……I’ve been determined to make the most of it. And the combination of both has made me successful.
