Daily Inspiration: Meet Keyona McCarthy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyona McCarthy.

Hi Keyona, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was 17 years old when I went to my first audition in Atlanta, Ga. After that it was Washington DC and Nashville, Tennessee. I’ve auditioned for Sunday’s Best 3 times. The Voice 4 times and American Idol twice. After 9 failed auditions and very little finances I decided to move back to my hometown and start my music career from scratch. I became a regular at a few local bars and lounges for open mic. I was known for quite a few covers.
Throughout that period I connected with a few music groups and but still struggled to find my own sound.
It wasn’t until after the birth of my second child that I finally got it right.
I linked up with Menn Black production team that had been doing a little grinding of their own. Within the first few months of our collaboration I had written and released my first single “Direction.”
They were able to help take my vision and bring it to fruition. In addition to working with Menn Black Production I later connected to creative collective known as The Clutch Factory. Both teams based out of my hometown Macon Ga.
On September 24, 2021 I released my first EP, Love Life. It’s currently streaming on all platforms! This project is my baby and I am so grateful to be able to share it with my supporters. I’m excited to see what the future holds.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been times I’ve felt like I wanted to give up due to lack of support but my grind is real, it comes from my love for music and the genuine desire for a better life for myself and my family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a singer/songwriter and beginner guitarist. I honestly love creating music more than anything.
I am most proud of my most recent project “Love Life” I put so much into it and I am beyond satisfied with the outcome.

What makes you happy?
My Family. I would move heaven and earth for them. I truly love watching my children grow and learn new things. I mostly love experiencing them become their own person. Their little personalities light up my world.

My spouse is the most supportive person in my corner. He’s the reason I’m able to pursue my dream so vigorously. I wouldn’t be where I am without him.
