Today we’d like to introduce you to Na’kayla Hicks.
Hi Na’kayla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Hey guys, my name is Na’kayla Hicks. I am the founder of ‘Everything Khollywood’. It’s an online cosmetics store for women from all over. I started my business last year, March 2020. During the pandemic, I had a lot of time on my hands and decided to start a business. I started off selling clothes, it didn’t take off the way I expected it to so I stopped. I stopped for two reasons, it wasn’t making sales, and I wasn’t really into it. Fast forward to February 2021. I remember doing my makeup one night to go out with my friends and while going through the many makeup products I have, I said to myself “damn, I should look into selling my own products.” After doing my research on how to start a cosmetics business, I contacted two vendors, ordered samples, and it was one vendor I decided to work with. It was March 12, 2021, when I launched my products and website and got started. I received exactly 10 orders that very first day and I was so excited. As the days went on, I started to have slow days, where I’m not really making sales, and days where I’m making sales back-to-back. I didn’t give up, instead, I did more research how to promote my business more and kept going. Now here I am, October 2021, and my business is doing pretty good. While I expected to receive local sales, I was shocked to receive orders from out of state. I am happy with my business and as we continue to grow, I want to thank everyone who has supported me since day 1.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I don’t know anyone with a business that has described their business as being a ‘smooth road’. LOL. There’s always trials and errors, and that’s with any business. It’s either you’re going to give up, or keep going and as I go through the struggles of running a business, I choose to keep going. The road to success isn’t an easy ride, but I do believe it’ll be so worth it in the end.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Everyone thinks that I just sell Cosmetics, but those who really know me, know that I love reading. My passion for reading turned into me writing books of my own. My first book, ‘I Thought I had your heart’ was released in December 2017 and it was sold out the first month of me publishing it. Because I was very young (18 yrs. old) when I wrote and published it on Amazon, I took it down. I’m currently in the works of rewriting and publishing it again and I can’t wait for everyone to read it. I also have a book dropping November 2021, called, ‘Hooked on your love’ that was supposed to be released last year but things happened. It’ll be out soon and I know everyone is going to love it. There’s so many things I specialize in that I can’t name just one. LOL. I am very proud of my accomplishments. From starting my cosmetics line, writing and publishing my books, going to school, and much more. It’s a lot of work, but I can’t give up. It’s a must that I keep going and show other woman, that if I can do it, they can do it too. What sets me apart from others is my loyalty to my family and friends. My will and drive to do and be every day. Not just for myself but for everyone around me.
How do you define success?
Success to me is actually accomplishing goals you’ve set for yourself and having a good outcome. Success to me is not giving up when things aren’t going the way you want or expected them be and go. Success to me is believing and keeping faith in God and knowing that even when things are looking bad, some good will come from it. Success is hard, but it takes a strong-minded individual to make it through.
