Check Out Johnny Nomad’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Nomad.

Hi Johnny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am from Brooklyn, NY I grew up in a tough neighborhood that was unforgiving and brutally honest what it wanted to do to you. I moved to Atlanta when I was 23 years old and have been here ever since, Atlanta is home to me now.

I have always been interested in people and how they make their decisions in life and I wanted to do something to bring that to the light, so I started a podcast 4 years ago. At first, I had no idea how I would get people on my podcast so I just started finding interesting people on Instagram and began to DM them. I got told a lot of no’s and got blocked a lot. But that didn’t stop me I continued on.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t easy with work, family and quiet time to produce a podcast. Even to this day I write my poetry and produce my podcast at the bookends of the day. You have to carve out time for something that you truly believe in, you have to make an effort everyday.

I remember when I couldn’t get a guest for the podcast so I just spoke into the mic and began recording my thoughts on topics and posting it. I had doubt, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing but YouTube became my learning source and I was studying podcasting and listening to podcasts to see what I can do better. I still study every day how I can become better and I follow people who are doing it better than me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a writer, this runs deep in my heart. I published my first book in 2018 called “Purpose” it is a motivational book based off my Instagram page.

Writing is like therapy for me I do it everyday. Between my podcast and writing, I have to say I am having the most fun I have every had. I made the choice to do what I love and I am glad I made that decision.

I am currently writing a book of poetry about my time in Brooklyn called “My Life” I will also be adding some of my abstract artwork to the book. This will be out in Spring 2022.

I am documenting my creativity on my Instagram and taking people down my journey with me. I don’t apologize for the path I have taken in following my creativity, I am not a traditional person that sorts out a career. I wish others can change their mindset and go after their dreams as I have. I am who I want to be a writer/podcaster.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Being a Latinx writer/podcaster this has been the time to become a creative. The world is getting smaller with social media and more and more people of all sorts are putting their work out on the world’s stage. I see America making a shift and if you go to book stores now you can see black, brown and other faces on book covers now. I only see this increasing, this is not a trend but a mainstay and a correction for all the authors of color who never got their chance.

To be a Puerto Rican writer/podcaster is not a foreign thing, it’s becoming more common now.
